The formulation of inverse problems in the continuum eliminates discretization errors and allows for the exact incorporation of priors. In this paper, we formulate a continuous-domain inverse problem over a search space of continuous and piecewise-linear f ...

Metal plasticity is an inherently multiscale phenomenon due to the complex long-range field of atomistic dislocations that are the primary mechanism for plastic deformation in metals. Atomistic/Continuum (A/C) coupling methods are computationally efficient ...

We discuss the multiscale modeling of a granular material trapped between continuum elastic domains. The amorphous granular region, usually termed “gouge,” is under high confinement pressure, to represent the loading of faults at depth. We model the granul ...

It is well established that in the low-temperature limit, the two-dimensional quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a square lattice (2DQHAFSL) exhibits an anomaly in its spectrum at short-wavelengths on the zone-boundary. In the vicinity of the (pi, 0) po ...

This work focuses on the development of a non-conforming method for the coupling of PDEs based on weakly imposed transmission conditions: the continuity of the global solution is enforced by a finite number of Lagrange multipliers defined over the interfac ...

We propose an extensive discussion on the homogenization and scattering analysis of the second-order nonlinear metasurfaces. Our developments are based on the generalized sheet transition conditions (GSTCs) that are used to model the electromagnetic respon ...

Optical diffraction tomography (ODT) can be described using the scattering process through an inhomogeneous media. An inherent nonlinearity exists relating the scattering medium and the scattered field due to multiple scattering. Multiple scattering is oft ...

In this paper, a new high-order multiscale finite element method is developed for elliptic problems with highly oscillating coefficients. The method is inspired by the multiscale finite element method developed in [3], but a more explicit multiscale finite ...

Surface plasmons are able to generate extremely strong and confined optical fields at a deep-subwavelength scale, far beyond the diffraction limit, and now play a central role in nanosciences. A proper combination of plasmonic nanostructures can support Fa ...
