The invention concerns a single-particle inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometry particle sizing and counting method comprising providing or receiving an intensity-versus-counts histogram of particles detected using an ICP mass spectrometer, the ...

The surface mass balance (SMB) of large polar ice sheets and of snow and ice surfaces in general are incompletely understood because of the complexity of processes involved. One such process, drifting and blowing snow, has only been considered in a very si ...

The beta spectrum of the main transition of the 171Tm was measured using a double focalizing spectrometer. The instrument was lately improved in order to reduce its low energy threshold to 34 keV. We used the spectrometer to measure the energy end-point of ...

This dataset contains aerosol optical absorption coefficients at seven different wavelengths (babs(λ)), averaged to 10 min time resolution, measured during the year-long MOSAiC expedition from October 2019 to September 2020. The measurements were performed ...

Snowfall is one of the main positive contributors to the surface mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet. There are several techniques to monitor solid precipitation on the continent. Among them, meteorological radars provide the means to characterize the ...

Data from the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition allowed us to investigate the temporal dynamics of snowfall, snow accumulation and erosion in great detail for almost the whole accumulation season (No ...

This dataset contains equivalent black carbon (eBC) concentrations, averaged to 10 min time resolution, measured during the year-long MOSAiC expedition from October 2019 to September 2020. The measurements were performed in the Swiss container on the D-dec ...

This dataset contains a pollution flag in 1 min time resolution. It is derived by the pollution detection algorithm (PDA) based on the corrected particle number concentration data (DOI upcoming) measured during the year long MOSAiC expedition from October ...

While most precipitation in Antarctica falls as snow, little is known about liquid precipitation, although it can have ecological and climatic impacts. This study combines meteorological reports at 10 stations with the ERA5 reanalysis to provide a climatol ...

Precipitation is the result of a chain of meteorological processes ranging from the large- to the micro-scale. While the transport of moisture and lifting mechanisms leading to cloud formation are mostly governed by dynamical processes, the formation and g ...

This article describes a 4-month dataset of precipitation and cloud measurements collected during the International Collaborative Experiments for PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic winter games (ICE-POP 2018). This paper aims to describe the data coll ...

Usually the Arctic is relatively free of anthropogenic influence in summer, which means that particles from natural sources can be the most significant nuclei for cloud droplets. However, this is not the case during anomalously warm-air intrusions when the ...

Data from the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition allowed us to investigate the temporal dynamics of snowfall, snow accumulation, and erosion in great detail for almost the whole accumulation season (N ...

Heated tipping-bucket (TB) gauges are used broadly in national weather monitoring networks, but their performance for the measurement of solid precipitation has not been well characterized. Manufacturer-provided TB gauges were evaluated at five test sites ...

Precipitation falling over the coastal regions of Antarctica often experiences low-level sublimation within the dry katabatic layer. The amount of water that reaches the ground surface is thereby considerably reduced. This paper investigates the synoptic c ...

The accuracy required for a correct interpretation of differential reflectivity (ZDR) is typically estimated to be between 0.1 and 0.2 dB. This is achieved through calibration, defined as the identification of the constant or time-varying offset to be subt ...

The size distribution of neutral and charged particles was measured using a neutral cluster and air ion spectrometer (NAIS) instrument. The concentration was corrected for diffusional losses in the inlet. The concentration and temporal dynamics of small pa ...

Modelling and forecasting wind-driven redistribution of snow in mountainous regions with its implications on avalanche danger, mountain hydrology or flood hazard is still a challenging task often lacking in essential details. Measurements of drifting and b ...

Solidification is a phase transformation of utmost importance in material science, for it largely controls materials' microstructure on which a wide range of mechanical properties depends. Almost every human artifact undergoes a transformation that leads t ...

The abundance and speciation of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAP) is important for understanding their impacts on human health, cloud formation, and ecosystems. Towards this, we have developed a protocol for quantifying PBAP collected from large ...
