Computational chemistry aims to simulate reactions and molecular properties at the atomic scale, advancing the design of novel compounds and materials with economic, environmental, and societal implications. However, the field relies on approximate quantum ...

The most promising solution towards cementitious materials with a lower carbon footprint is the partial substitution of the clinker by supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) such as fly ash, blast furnace slag, limestone and calcined clays. The produc ...

Minimax-fair machine learning minimizes the error for the worst-off group. However, empirical evidence suggests that when sophisticated models are trained with standard empirical risk minimization (ERM), they often have the same performance on the worst-of ...

Carbohydrates are the most abundant organic material on Earth and the structural "material of choice" in many living systems. Nevertheless, design and engineering of synthetic carbohydrate materials presently lag behind that for protein and nucleic acids. ...

Here, we present new cryogenic infrared spectra of the (Imidazole) H-n(+) (n=1,2,3) ions. The data was obtained using helium tagging infrared predissociation spectroscopy. The new results were compared with the data obtained by Gerardi et al. (Chem. Phys. ...

In Peierls-distorted materials, photoexcitation leads to a strongly coupled transient response between structural and electronic degrees of freedom, always measured independently of each other. Here we use transient reflectivity in the extreme ultraviolet ...

Data-driven schemes that associate molecular and crystal structures with their microscopic properties share the need for a concise, effective description of the arrangement of their atomic constituents. Many types of models rely on descriptions of atom-cen ...

Many-body descriptors are widely used to represent atomic environments in the construction of machine-learned interatomic potentials and more broadly for fitting, classification, and embedding tasks on atomic structures. There is a widespread belief in the ...

The ground-breaking works of Weinberg have opened the way to calculations of atomic nuclei that are based on systematically improvable Hamiltonians. Solving the associated many-body Schrodinger equation involves non-trivial difficulties, due to the non-per ...

We briefly summarize the kernel regression approach, as used recently in materials modelling, to fitting functions, particularly potential energy surfaces, and highlight how the linear algebra framework can be used to both predict and train from linear fun ...

The pursuit of an increasingly accurate description of intermolecular interactions within the framework of Kohn-Sham density functional theory (KS-DFT) has motivated the construction of numerous benchmark databases over the past two decades. By far, the la ...

In the nanoscale regime, flow behaviors for liquids show qualitative deviations from bulk expectations. In this work, we reveal by molecular dynamics simulations that plug flow down to nanoscale induces molecular friction that leads to a new flow structure ...

The field of quantum chemistry has recently undergone a series of paradigm shifts, including a boom in machine learning applications that target the electronic structure problem. Along with these technological innovations, the community continues to identi ...

Non-covalent bonding patterns are commonly harvested as a design principle in the field of catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, and functional materials to name a few. Yet, their computational description generally neglects finite temperature and environme ...

We present a first-principles investigation of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of the pristine and Fe-doped alpha-MnO2 using density-functional theory with extended Hubbard functionals. The onsite U and intersite V Hubbard parameters ar ...

Atomistic-continuum multiscale modelling is becoming an increasingly popular tool for simulating the behaviour of materials due to its computational efficiency and reliable accuracy. In the case of ferromagnetic materials, the atomistic approach handles th ...

The thermal spin crossover (SCO) phenomenon refers to an entropy-driven spin transition in some materials based on d(6)-d(9) transition metal complexes. While its molecular origin is well known, intricate SCO behaviours are increasingly common, in which th ...

The marked interplay between the crystalline, electronic, and magnetic structure of atomically thin magnets has been regarded as the key feature for designing next-generation magneto-optoelectronic devices. In this respect, a detailed understanding of the ...

We present a generally applicable computational framework for the efficient and accurate characterization of molecular structural patterns and acid properties in an explicit solvent using H2O2 and CH3SO3H in phenol as an example. To address the challenges ...

The molecular dipole moment (mu) is a central quantity in chemistry. It is essential in predicting infrared and sum-frequency generation spectra as well as induction and long-range electrostatic interactions. Furthermore, it can be extracted directly-via t ...
