Optical tweezers are devices that can manipulate nano- and microparticles using a laser. The principle of optical tweezers is to apply a force to an object using the momentum of light. This force is very small, but it is sufficient to move things in the mi ...

Here we present a method to extract thermodynamic quantities for nanoparticle dispersions in solvents. The method is based on the study of tomograms obtained from cryogenic electron tomography (cryoET). The approach is demonstrated for gold nanoparticles ( ...

Nanomaterials and nanoparticles are nowadays used in a wide range of applications; from sunscreens, paint and food industry to catalytic processes, lighting, TV's and displays, their presence is percolating in our daily life. New applications rise every da ...

Metal nanoparticles are frequently employed for the colorimetric detection of specific target molecules using an aggregation-induced shift of the localized surface plasmon resonance. However, metal nanoparticles dispersed in bulk solutions are prone to be ...

Over the past decades, there has been a dramatic change in the types and amounts of metal ions in the biosphere, since we have introduced huge amount of metal waste into our environment in the course of industrialization of our society. Most of the metal c ...

Recent work has demonstrated that charged gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) protected by an amphiphilic organic monolayer can spontaneously insert into the core of lipid bilayers to minimize the exposure of hydrophobic surface area to water. However, the kinetic ...

Optical Coherence Microscopy (OCM) is a three-dimensional imaging technique that provides cross-sectional views of the subsurface microstructure of biological tissue, with a high axial and lateral resolution. In OCM, a low time coherence light source is sp ...

We successfully demonstrate the in situ formation by X-ray irradiation induced polymerization of a three-dimensional (3D) hydrogel based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) diacrylate (PEG DA), with the option of heparin incorporation to enhance cell adhesion. ...

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) was observed when a planar close-packed assembly of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) is adsorbed at the water|1,2-dichloroethane interface. Aqueous gold nanoparticles, 13 or 16 nm in diameter, are deposited at the interface by ad ...

The polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified gold nanoparticle complex was synthesized by a one-solution synchrotron x-ray irradiation method. The impact on the structure and morphology of the gold nanoparticles of process parameters such as the PEG molecular we ...

The optical properties of plasmonic dipole and bowtie nanoantennas are investigated in detail using the Green's tensor technique. The influence of the geometrical parameters (antenna length, gap dimension and bow angle) on the antenna field enhancement and ...

Since contrasts agents are used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), numerous efforts have been done to increase their relaxivity (parameter allowing to quantify contrast agent efficiency). Few years ago, the Merbach group developed the chelating agent DTT ...

Uniformly dispersed deposition of various nanoparticles (gold and silver of 20?50 nm) and nanowires (ZnO and VOx) on different surfaces (Si, GaAs, mica, and steel) was obtained by boiling colloid drops on preheated substrates. Our results suggest a deposit ...
