We study and demonstrate a Bloch-surface-wave-based nano-thin waveguide grating. The waveguide grating is characterized as a Bragg mirror at telecommunication wavelengths. The structure is a dielectric multilayer platform designed to sustain a Bloch surfac ...

A dielectric multilayer platform was investigated as a foundation for two-dimensional optics. In this paper, we present, to the best of our knowledge, the first experimental demonstration of absorption of Bloch surface waves in the presence of graphene lay ...

We report the first experimental demonstration of high quality factor confinement of Bloch surface waves at visible wavelengths. The cavities consist of planar Fabry-Perot resonators that are fabricated on top of a Bloch surface supporting substrate. This ...

Bloch surface waves (BSWs) are recently developing alternative to surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). Due to dramatically enhanced propagation distance and strong field confinement these surface states can be successfully used in on-chip all-optical integra ...

Background: The periodic dielectric multilayers sustaining Bloch surface waves have been proposed as a platformfor the sensing applications and the two dimensional integrated optics. In this paper, we present the experimental and theoretical investigation ...

Strong nonlinear, electro-optical, and thermo-optical properties of lithium niobate (LN) have gained much attention. However, the implementation of LiNbO3 in real devices is not a trivial task due to difficulties in manufacturing and handling thin-film LN. ...

Bloch surface waves (BSWs) are electromagnetic surface waves excited in the band gap of a one dimensional dielectric photonic crystal. They are confined at the interface of two media. Due to the use of dielectric material, the losses are very low, which al ...

We present a direct evidence of Bloch surface waves (BSWs) waveguiding on ultrathin polymeric ridges, supported by near-field measurements. It is demonstrated that near-infrared BSWs sustained by a silicon-based multilayer can be locally coupled and guided ...

We demonstrate that an ultrathin ridge (< lambda/10) can guide Bloch surface waves in a dielectric multilayer. The propagation and polarization properties of the guided modes are investigated with a multi-heterodyne scanning near-field optical microscope. ...

In this thesis, we present the development of a tunable Multi-Heterodyne Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscope (MH-SNOM). This instrument has been built and evaluated for the investigation of optical near fields in amplitude, phase and polarization. With ...
