In the growing field of closed-loop neuromodulation, designing power-and area-efficient analog front-ends (AFEs) for neural recording poses a significant challenge. Thus, an effective design flow is needed to ensure system's hardware efficiency and to auto ...

Most of existing buildings are made of concrete, new buildings are being built with it and others are demolished when still in good structural condition. This drives increased demands for raw materials, greenhouse gas emissions, and an accumulation of demo ...

Designing turbocompressors is a complex and challenging task, as it involves balancing conflicting objectives such as efficiency, stability, and robustness against manufacturing deviations. This paper proposes an integrated design methodology for turbocomp ...

The web's local buckling is a major failure type of pultruded glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bridge deck subjected to concentrated wheel loads. Three kinds of external actions-that is, in-plane shear force, local compressive force and bending moment ...

Generic models are proposed to evaluate the skin friction coefficient acting on enclosed rotating disks and cylinders under various flow regimes. In particular, a model taking into account the inner radius of the disk is developed. The models are compared ...

A finite groove approach (FGA), based on the finite element method (FEM), is used for analyzing the static and dynamic behavior of spiral-grooved aerodynamic journal bearings at different eccentricities, number of grooves, and compressibility numbers. The ...

Foil bearings are strong candidates to support oil -free turbomachinery. Although foil bearings are a widely used technology, models describing their behavior are not validated using the film pressure, which is the fundamental variable of any fluid film be ...

A tolerancing method highlighting trade-offs against key design variables of mechanical systems is proposed and applied to herringbone-grooved gas journal bearings. Gas bearings typically suffer from a subsynchronous instability, demanding a very tight tol ...

Gas lubricated bearings are capable of supporting high speed rotors with satisfactory load capacities. Pressure is one of the constitutional quantities governing the flow field in gas lubricated bearings. Knowledge of the pressure is of principal importanc ...

Small-scale oil-free turbocompressors driven by high-speed electric motors and supported on refrigerant vapor bearings represent a promising technology to increase the performance of domestic heat pumps. Gas bearings enable high rotational speeds with low ...

To face climate change, Switzerland proposes the 2050 energy strategy by fixing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission targets for the built environment. Designers will then have to increase operating performances while inimizing embodied impacts. This represents a ...

Visual markers are graphic symbols designed to be easily recognised by machines. They are traditionally used to,track goods, but there is increasing interest in their application to mobile HCI. By scanning a visual marker through a camera phone, users can ...
