Deviations from statistical binding, that is cooperativity, in self-assembled polynuclear complexes partly result from intermetallic interactions Delta E-M,E-M, whose magnitudes in solution depend on a balance between electrostatic repulsion and solvation ...

Organometallic ruthenium(II)-arene (RA) antitumour compounds of the general type [Ru(II)(η6-arene)(X)2(pta)], RA-pta, and [Ru(II)(η6-arene)X(en)], RA-en, (X=leaving group; pta=1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane, en=ethylenediamine) have been investigated com ...

This thesis deals with the self-organization of individual building blocks, specifically organic molecules and metal atoms, into supramolecular structures on metal surfaces under ultra high vacuum conditions (UHV). Self-organization of supramolecular syste ...

A new range of pendent diphosphine (η6-p-cymene)ruthenium(II) complexes, [RuCl(PPh3)(η1-(P-P))(η6-p-cymene)]PF6 (P-P = dppm, cis-PPh2CHCHPPh2

Neutral metallamacrocycles with four or ten metal centers were obtained by reaction of [(R3P)PdCl2]2 with 2,3-dihydroxypyridine and derivatives or 2-hydroxynicotinic acid in the presence of base. In all these assemblies, the two O-donor atoms of the ligand ...

This thesis explores transport phenomena in nanochannels on a chip. Fundamental nanofluidic ionic studies form the basis for novel separation and preconcentration applications for proteomic purposes. The measurements were performed with 50-nm-high 1D nanoc ...

12-Metallacrown-3 complexes were formed by self-assembly of organometallic half-sandwich complexes [(π-ligand)MCl2]2 (M = Ru, Rh, Ir) and 3-hydroxy-2-pyridone ligands in the presence of Cs2CO3 as base. Upon mixing of different macrocycles, reversible metal ...

We present in this work a new technique, which combines laser photofragmentation spectroscopy with tandem mass spectrometry, for structural investigations of biomolecular ions in the gas phase. A novel apparatus was designed and built for the implementatio ...

The diastereoselective synthesis of chiral coordination compounds with d metals proved the effectiveness of the pinene-bipyridine approach in predetermining the chirality at the metal centre. The strong Lewis acidic character of lanthanide cations required ...

The heterotritopic ligand [bpy(DTTA)2]8- has two diethylenediamine-tetraacetate units for selective lanthanide(III) coordination and one bipyridine function for selective FeII coordination. In aqueous solution and in the presence of these metals, the ligan ...

New polydentate ligands (e.g., Tsox and TsoxMe) have been synthesized to take advantage of the chelating effect of bidentate 8-hydroxyquinolinate subunits connected to a N,N,N¢,N¢-tetraaminopropyl-1,2-ethylenediamine framework and with the aim of sensitizi ...

The electrospray ionisation mass spectra (EDESI-MS) of Ru6C(CO)16(PPh3) and Ir4(CO)11(PR3) (PR3 = PPh3, P(p-C6H4OMe)3, P(p-C6

This thesis describes the application of the quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) Car-Parrinello methodology to two systems of high biological interest: (a) The potassium channel KcsA from Streptomyces lividans and (b) The DNA repair enzyme EndoIV ...

In the last two decades, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has evolved into one of the most powerful techniques in diagnostic clinical medicine and biomedical research. MRI is primarily used to produce anatomical images, but may also give information on the ...

Ru(II) and Os(II) p-cymene dichloride complexes with either a pta (1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphatricyclo[3.3.1.1]decane) or [pta-Me]Cl ligand which exhibit anticancer activity were prepd. and characterized by 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Thr ...

This thesis is concerned with supramolecular architectures assembled at metal surfaces. The investigations pursued two objectives. On the one hand, the focus was placed on the fabrication of low-dimensional surface-supported network structures by applying ...

The hexadentate bispidine-based ligand 2,4-bis(2-pyridyl)-3,7-bis(2-methylenepyridine)-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-9-on-1,5-bis(carbonic acid methyl ester), L-6m, with four pyridine and two tertiary amine donors, based on a very rigid diazaadamantane-der ...

A miniaturized polymer electrospray-type interface is used to study metal-ion chelation with model peptides. Taking advantage of the intrinsic electrochemical behavior of electrospray, a sacrificial electrode is used to generate at the same time electrospr ...

A combination of mass spectrometry, UV/Vis spectroscopy and molecular modelling techniques hove been used to characterise the interaction of cisplatin with human serum transferrin (Tf). Mass spectrometry indicates that cisplatin binds to the hydroxy functi ...
