The large surface-to-volume ratio of GaN nanowires implicates sensitivity of the optical and electrical properties of the nanowires to their surroundings. The implementation of an (Al, Ga) N shell with a larger band gap around the GaN nanowire core is a pr ...

Plasmonic antennas have enabled a wealth of applications that exploit tailored near-fields and radiative properties, further endowed by the bespoke interactions of multiple resonant building blocks. Specifically, when the interparticle distances are reduce ...

This paper presents a monolithic approach for the integration of silicon nanowires (Si NWs) with microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). The process is demonstrated for the case of co-fabrication of Si NWs with a 10-μm-thick MEMS on the same silicon-on-insu ...

he recent ability to integrate semiconductor-based optoelectronic functionalities within thin fibers is opening intriguing opportunities for flexible electronics and advanced textiles. The scalable integration of high-quality semiconducting devices within ...

The goal of this thesis is to master the synthesis of GaAs nanowires ensembles on Si for their application in solar cells. Semiconductor nanowires present promising characteristics for photovoltaic applications: they benefit from their longitudinal high as ...

Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are filamentary crystals with the diameter ranging from few tens up to few hundreds of nanometers. In the last 20 years, they have been intensively studied for the prospects that their unique quasi-one dimensional shape offers ...

Guided growth of semiconductor nanowires in nanotube templates has been considered as a potential platform for reproducible integration of III-Vs on silicon or other mismatched substrates. Herein, we report on the challenges and prospects of molecular beam ...

The mechanical properties of electrodeposited copper with highly-oriented nanoscale twins were investigated by micropillar compression. Uniform nanotwinned copper films with preferred twin orientations, either vertical or horizontal, were obtained by contr ...

Three-point bending tests were performed on double-anchored, < 110 > silicon nanowire samples in the vacuum chamber of a scanning electron microscope ( SEM) via a micromanipulator equipped with a piezoresistive force sensor. Nanowires with widths of 35nm a ...

The aim of this thesis is to understand the dynamics of the growth of catalyst-free III-V semiconductor nanostructures on silicon substrates, focusing the attention mainly on the early stages of growths. A detailed understanding of this first phase of the ...

GaAs nanowire arrays on Silicon offer great perspectives in the :optoeleetronics and solar cell industry. To fulfill this potential, gold-free growth in predetermined positions should be achieved. Ga-assisted growth of GaAs nano-wires in the form of array ...
