A de facto standard approach in solving computer vision tasks is to use a common high-resolution camera and choose its placement on an agent based on human intuition. On the other hand, extremely simple and well-designed visual sensors found throughout nat ...

Sharing data across institutions for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) would enhance the discovery of genetic variation linked to health and disease1,2. However, existing data-sharing regulations limit the scope of such collaborations3. Although crypt ...

Recent advancements in deep learning have revolutionized 3D computer vision, enabling the extraction of intricate 3D information from 2D images and video sequences. This thesis explores the application of deep learning in three crucial challenges of 3D com ...

We introduce an algorithm to reconstruct a mesh from discrete samples of a shape's Signed Distance Function (SDF). A simple geometric reinterpretation of the SDF lets us formulate the problem through a point cloud, from which a surface can be extracted wit ...

We address the problem of segmenting anomalies and unusual obstacles in road scenes for the purpose of self-driving safety. The objects in question are not present in the common training sets as it is not feasible to collect and annotate examples for every ...

Finding cycles in directed graphs enables important applications in various domains such as finance, biology, chemistry, and network science. However, as the size of graph datasets continues to grow, it becomes increasingly difficult to discover cycles wit ...

To obtain a more complete understanding of material microstructure at the nanoscale and to gain profound insights into their properties, there is a growing need for more efficient and precise methods that can streamline the process of 3D imaging using a tr ...

In recent years, new emerging immersive imaging modalities, e.g. light fields, have been receiving growing attention, becoming increasingly widespread over the years. Light fields are often captured through multi-camera arrays or plenoptic cameras, with th ...

Region extraction is a very common task in both Computer Science and Engineering with several applications in object recognition and motion analysis, among others. Most of the literature focuses on regions delimited by straight lines, often in the special ...

A description is presented of the algorithms used to reconstruct energy deposited in the CMS hadron calorimeter during Run 2 (2015-2018) of the LHC. During Run 2, the characteristic bunch-crossing spacing for proton-proton collisions was 25 ns, which resul ...

Single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) are novel image sensors that record the arrival of individual photons at extremely high temporal resolution. In the past, they were only available as single pixels or small-format arrays, for various active imaging ap ...

Non-convex constrained optimization problems have become a powerful framework for modeling a wide range of machine learning problems, with applications in k-means clustering, large- scale semidefinite programs (SDPs), and various other tasks. As the perfor ...

Dynamic environments such as urban areas are still challenging for popular visual-inertial odometry (VIO) algorithms. Existing datasets typically fail to capture the dynamic nature of these environments, therefore making it difficult to quantitatively eval ...

Image restoration reconstructs, as faithfully as possible, an original image from a potentially degraded version of it. Image degradations can be of various types, for instance haze, unwanted reflections, optical or spectral aberrations, or other physicall ...

Decentralized deployment of drone swarms usually relies on inter-agent communication or visual markers that are mounted on the vehicles to simplify their mutual detection. This letter proposes a vision-based detection and tracking algorithm that enables gr ...

We propose a pre-training strategy called Multi-modal Multi-task Masked Autoencoders (MultiMAE). It differs from standard Masked Autoencoding in two key aspects: I) it can optionally accept additional modalities of information in the input besides the RGB ...

Human-centered scene understanding is the process of perceiving and analysing a dynamic scene observed through a network of sensors with emphasis on human-related activities. It includes the visual perception of human-related activities from either single ...

We consider the problem of sampling from a density of the form p(x) ? exp(-f (x) - g(x)), where f : Rd-+ R is a smooth function and g : R-d-+ R is a convex and Lipschitz function. We propose a new algorithm based on the Metropolis-Hastings framework. Under ...

Large training datasets have played a vital role in the success of modern deep learning methods in computer vision. But, obtaining sufficient amount of training data is challenging, specially when annotating volumetric images. This is because fully annotat ...

The rapid development of autonomous driving and mobile mapping calls for off-the-shelf LiDAR SLAM solutions that are adaptive to LiDARs of different specifications on various complex scenarios. To this end, we propose MULLS, an efficient, low-drift, and ve ...
