The mammalian brain develops through precisely orchestrated events that transform a simple neural tube into a complex structure. While single-cell RNA sequencing has revealed remarkable cellular heterogeneity, the lack of spatial context limits our underst ...

A spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers a cascade of molecular and cellular responses involving inflammatory cell infiltration and cytokine release, apoptosis, demyelination, excitotoxicity, ischemia, and the formation of a fibrotic scar surrounded by an astro ...

Animals possess a remarkable ability to navigate challenging terrains, achieved through the interplay of various pathways between the brain, central pattern generators (CPGs) in the spinal cord, and musculoskeletal system. Traditional bioinspired control f ...

Cervical spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to permanent impairment of arm and hand functions. Here we conducted a prospective, single-arm, multicenter, open-label, non-significant risk trial that evaluated the safety and efficacy of ARCEX Therapy to improve a ...

Type systems are a device for verifying properties of programs without running them. Many programming languages used in the industry have always had a type system, while others were initially created without a type system and later adopted one, when the ad ...

Cells are the smallest operational units of living systems. Through synthesis of various biomolecules and exchange of signals with the environment, cells tightly regulate their composition to realize a specific functional state. The transformation of a cel ...

The present invention relates to a neuromodulation/neurostimulation system (10) for the treatment of spasticity in a mammal, said system (10) comprising: - at least one control unit (12) configured and arranged to provide stimulation data, and - at least o ...

Traditional cell cultures have long been fundamental to biological research, offering an alternative to animal models burdened by ethical constraints and procedural intricacies, often lacking relevance to human physiology and disease. Moreover, their inabi ...

The present invention relates to a neuromodulation/neurostimulation system (10) for stimulating at least one neuronal circuitry responsible for micturition control in a mammal with bladder disfunction, especially for bladder relaxation and/or for bladder v ...

The last two decades have seen the development of organoid models for many different tissues and organs. Organoids are three-dimensional organ-mimetics derived from stem or progenitor cells comprising various specialized cell types, resembling the architec ...

Animals, including humans, exhibit a remarkable variety of complex behaviours. How the nervous system controls all these behaviours ranging from simple, stereotyped movements to flexible, adaptive actions is a central questions of neuroscience. One of the ...

Steroid hormone receptors (HRs) are ligand-activated transcription factors that play a pivotal role in breast development and carcinogenesis. It is well established that estrogen receptor (ER) signaling is a major proliferative driver in estrogen receptor ...

Animal movement is controlled by motor neurons (MNs), which project out of the central nervous system to activate muscles(1). MN activity is coordinated by complex premotor networks that facilitate the contribution of individual muscles to many different b ...

Objective. Studying the neural components regulating movement in human locomotion is obstructed by the inability to perform invasive experimental recording in the human neural circuits. Neuromechanical simulations can provide insights by modeling the locom ...

The premotor (PM) and primary motor (M1) cortical areas broadcast voluntary motor commands through multiple neuronal pathways, including the corticorubral projection that reaches the red nucleus (RN). However, the respective contribution of M1 and PM to co ...

The present invention relates to a combined neuromodulation and/or neurostimulation system (10) for mitigating locomotor deficits of/or neuronal disorders, especially Parkinson's disease, said system (10) comprising: - at least one Deep Brain Stimulation ( ...

Here, we show that, in the developing spinal cord, after the early Wnt-mediated Tcf transcription activation that confers dorsal identity to neural stem cells, neurogenesis redirects beta-catenin from the adherens junctions to the nucleus to stimulate Tcfo ...

Zebrafish have the capacity to fully regenerate the heart after an injury, which lies in sharp contrast to the irreversible loss of cardiomyocytes after a myocardial infarction in humans. Transcriptomics analysis has contributed to dissect underlying signa ...

The pathogenic bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) can invade the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and cause meningitis with devastating consequences. Whether and how sensory cells in the central nervous system (CNS) become activated during bacteri ...

Spinal cord injury (SCI) interrupts axonal connections between the brain and the spinal cord, and is characterized by a spectrum of sensorimotor and autonomic impairments. While spontaneous recovery is limited, recent studies have shown that functional imp ...
