Résumé

Everybody form a circle: Careful design of ligand strands and their reaction with Cu2+ ions leads to the formation of the title helicates. Incorporation of differing numbers of N-donor units within a ligand strand containing a phenyl spacer results in a pentanuclear head-to-tail circular helicate, whereas reaction of two different ligands results in a heteroleptic pentanuclear circular helicate (see picture; green: Cu, red and blue: ligands). © 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Ligand (chimie)

Un ligand est un atome, un ion ou une molécule portant des groupes fonctionnels lui permettant de se lier à un ou plusieurs atomes ou ions centraux. Le terme de ligand est le plus souvent utilisé en chimie de coordination et en chimie organométallique (branches de la chimie inorganique). L'interaction métal/ligand est du type acide de Lewis/base de Lewis. La liaison ainsi formée est nommée « liaison covalente de coordination ».

Tetradentate ligand

In chemistry, tetradentate ligands are ligands that bind four donor atoms to a central atom to form a coordination complex. This number of donor atoms that bind is called denticity and is a method of classifying ligands. Tetradentate ligands are common in nature in the form of chlorophyll, which has a core ligand called chlorin, and heme, which has a core ligand called porphyrin. They are responsible for the colour observed in plants and humans. Phthalocyanine is an artificial macrocyclic tetradentate ligand that is used to make blue and green pigments.
