The alkali halides are ionic compounds. Each alkali atom donates an electron to a halogen atom, leading to ions with full shells. The valence band is mainly located on halogen atoms, while, in a traditional picture, the conduction band is mainly located on ...

Sodium-ion technology is a reliable alternative to lithium-ion for large-scale energy storage because of the abundance of sodium sources and related low cost. In this work, we report about a simple fabrication of self-standing electrodes based on electrosp ...

N-Heterocyclic carbenes are able to form covalent adducts with nitrous oxide (N2O) under ambient conditions. This thesis summarizes the studies of these adducts and their reactivity. A ditopic carbanionic N-heterocyclic carbene was found to react with nit ...

The structural and electrochemical properties of a quaternary layered compound with elemental composition Mn2Sb3O6Cl have been investigated upon reaction with lithium in Li half cells. Operando XRD was used to investigate the potential impact of this parti ...

Environmental geotechnics involves several engineering applications (such as the salinification of groundwater and the storage of nuclear wastes) for which a deep understanding of the chemo-mechanical behaviour of soils is a fundamental component. Despite ...

Benzo-15-crown-5 functionalized polymer brushes prepared via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization are used as the active layer in a potassium-selective quartz crystal microbalance sensor. The polymer brushes allow the selective detection ...

Using calculations based on density-functional theory, we explore the configurations that water molecules (2,3,4;6) assume on the surface a sodium 2:1 smectite clay with isomorphic substitutions both on octahedral and tetrahedral sheets. The hydrophilicity ...

We report on the effect of substituting the two tetrabutyl ammonium counter ions of the standard N719 dye by sodium ions on the performance and stability of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The disodium analogue of N719 in conjunction with a non-volatile ...

The photoexcitation and photoionization dynamics of sodium atoms deposited on the surface of helium nanodroplets and aromatic molecules (aniline, phenol and toluene) embedded in the interior of droplets have been investigated by a variety of spectroscopic ...
