The success of plastics heavily relies on fast melt processing methods used for large-scale industrial manufacturing, including injection molding. The hierarchical structure of the solid polymer depends on material selection combined with processing condit ...

Injection molding is known to create a layered anisotropicmorphologyacross the sample thickness due to varying shear and cooling ratesduring the manufacturing process. In this study, scanning small-angleX-ray scattering was used to visualize and quantify t ...

As an important connection of terrestrial and marine ecosystems, rivers input multitudinous (micro)plastics into the oceans. However, comparisons of field and estimated riverine inputs of (micro)plastics and contributions of multiple parameters are limited ...

Studies focused only on surface water may underestimate microplastic abundance in aquatic environments. This was the first survey to investigate the vertical (surface, intermediate, and bottom waters) distribution and composition of microplastics (MPs) in ...

Microplastics pollution in river systems has generated great concern; however, few studies have focused on the contributions of multiple influencing factors to microplastics in river systems. In the current study, we utilized data on microplastics in surfa ...

In the present work, we studied the NH(3)and H2S odor fluxes between the exposed working area and the HDPE covering film holes of the daily overlay in an actual landfill site with a daily operating area of 1600 m(2)in Hangzhou, China. We showed that the od ...

Over the last few decades, ever-increasing demands of society to the built environment have continually increased consumption of energy and materials for the construction and maintenance of structures. Meanwhile, Strain Hardening Ultra High-Performance Fib ...

The widely different effects of Cu-polyester (PES) sputtered by high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) compared to the lower energy direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS) leading to bacterial inactivation are addressed during the course of th ...

At low pH, underwater adherence between poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) hydrogels and poly(acrylic acid) brushes is due to the formation of multiple hydrogen bonds. The effect of the key parameters controlling the formation of these interactions (contact time ...

Water quality and bacterial infections are directly related to human health and wellbeing, thus waste water treatment is a necessary procedure for avoiding disturbances to ecosystems and for assuring human health. Furthermore, bacterial contamination in wa ...

The effect of physical aging and continuation of curing on the physical and mechanical properties of a commercial cold-curing structural epoxy adhesive used in bridge construction has been investigated during the first year. Since adhesive bridge joints ar ...

Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concretes (UHPFRC) have demonstrated their potential to contain the explosion of maintenance costs (Economy and Environment) for civil engineering structures, due to their extremely low permeability associated with t ...

This study firstly aims to assess the field performances of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and silicone rubber (SR) samplers for the monitoring of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in water regarding the uptake, the sam- pling rate (RS) estimated by using ...

Background: Major concerns in hip arthroplasty concern the fate of bearing surfaces. Highly cross-linked polyethylene materials (HXLPE) currently demonstrate successful in vitro results with new technical procedures of cross-linking the polyethylene materi ...

Turbidity currents are the main source of suspended sediment transport in reservoirs and thus one of the main causes of sedimentation. One of the techniques used to avoid reservoir sedimentation is through venting of turbidity currents. In the framework of ...

One aim of this study is to determine the impact of water velocity on the uptake of indicator polychlorinated biphenyls (iPCBs) by silicone rubber (SR) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) passive samplers. A second aim is to assess the efficiency of perfor ...

This study shows the efficiency of passive sampling to reveal industrial and agricultural pollution trends. Two practical applications for nonpolar and polar contaminants are presented. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) samplers were deployed for one year in ...

This paper presents a novel fabrication method for producing high-aspect-ratio, angled polymer microfiber arrays by directional pulling of polyethylene from low-aspect-ratio, microporous polycarbonate templates. These arrays represent a novel substrate for ...

Widespread use of petrochemicals often leads to accidental releases in aquatic environments, occasionally with disastrous results. We have developed a hydrophobic and oleophilic mesh that separates oil from water continuously in situ via capillary action, ...
