Electron beam-generated plasmas (EBPs) have been used to modify the surface properties. In certain applications, EBPs are transversely confined and their properties are of value to the treatment. In this paper, the characteristics of an electron beam-gener ...

The problem of estimating a surface shape from its observed reflectance properties still remains a challenging task in computer vision. The presence of global illumination effects such as inter-reflections or cast shadows makes the task particularly diffic ...

Generative models that produce point clouds have emerged as a powerful tool to represent 3D surfaces, and the best current ones rely on learning an ensemble of parametric representations. Unfortunately, they offer no control over the deformations of the su ...

Recently, parametric mappings have emerged as highly effective surface representations, yielding low reconstruction error. In particular, the latest works represent the target shape as an atlas of multiple mappings, which can closely encode object parts. A ...

Subsurface scattering, in which light refracts into a translucent material to interact with its interior, is the dominant mode of light transport in many types of organic materials. Accounting for this phenomenon is thus crucial for visual realism, but exp ...

Beryllium limiter marker tiles were exposed to plasma in the Joint European Torus to diagnose the erosion of main chamber wall materials. A limiter marker tile consists of a beryllium coating layer (7-9 mu m) on the top of bulk beryllium, with a nickel int ...

Interfacial phase transitions are of fundamental importance for climate, industry, and biological processes. In this work, we observe a hydration mediated surface transition in supercooled oil nanodroplets in aqueous solutions using second harmonic and sum ...

Resonance Raman scattering measurements were performed on indium nitride thin films under conditions where the surface electron concentration was controlled by an electrolyte gate. As the surface condition is tuned from electron depletion to accumulation, ...

The structure of solid-ionic liquid (IL) interfaces has been characterised with unprecedented clarity by employing a range of atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging techniques and tip pressures appropriate for the system under study. Soft contact and amplit ...

We present a stereodynamics study of the dissociative chemisorption of vibrationally excited methane on the (100), (110), and (111) planes of a nickel single crystal surface. Using linearly polarized infrared excitation of the antisymmetric C–H stretch nor ...

Dense disparity maps can be computed from wide-baseline stereo pairs but will inevitably contain large areas where the depth cannot be estimated accurately because the pixels are seen in one view only. A traditional approach to this problem is to introduce ...

Surfaces -defined as the interfaces between solids and liquids- have attracted much attention in optics and biology, such as total internal reflection imaging (TIRF) and DNA microarrays. Within the context of optofluidics however, surfaces have received li ...

Using silhouettes in uncontrolled environments typically requires handling occlusions as well as changing or cluttered backgrounds, which limits the applicability of most silhouette based methods. For the purpose of 3--D shape modeling, we show that repres ...

This thesis presents a methodology for the design optimization of hydraulic runner blades. The originality of the methodology comes from the geometric definition of the blade shapes, which uses parametric surfaces instead of a set of profiles. The main adv ...

The flux of charge exchange ( CX) neutrals measured by neutral particle analysers ( NPAs) is the line integral along the viewline of the NPA and contains information about the ion energy distribution of the observed plasma. On the Tokamaka a Configuration ...

The aim of this paper is to apply a surface parameterization to a blade. This geometric representation should be used as a practical tool in the process of design optimization. Most parameterizations are based on blade section approaches. The parameters ar ...
