Group-velocity dispersion, third-order dispersion and propagation losses of 14m normal dispersion ZBLAN fiber are directly and continuously measured over 1500-2100nm range using all-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The fiber is then used for dispersion c ...

Analysis of fringe patterns for the accurate estimation of phase and phase derivatives is of crucial importance in optical interferometry as these quantities provide important information on the physical parameters under study. A wide range of applications ...

Due to their high number of supported modes, multimode optical fibers carry large amount of spatio-temporal information. However, propagation of a light pulse through a multimode optical fiber suffers from spatial distortions due to superposition of the va ...

A method to measure the signal power evolution along phase-sensitive parametric amplifiers is proposed using Brillouin optical time-domain analysis. Different evolutions along the fiber are reported by varying input wave phases, including amplification and ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a method based on Brillouin optical time-domain analysis to measure the longitudinal signal power distribution along phase-sensitive fiber-optical parametric amplifiers (PS-FOPAs). Experimental results show that th ...

As audio reproduction systems evolve to incorporate many loudspeakers, the potential to evoke faithful auditory spatial impressions increases. Psychoacoustic principles of auditory spatial perception, and methods for production and reproduction of acoustic ...

Since the invention of optical fiber cable data transmission using light has become ubiquitous in the past years. Nonlinear optical effects, which are hardly noticed in our daily life, have become crucial and highly influential for the design and performan ...

Method for estimating and correcting a frequency offset between a local clock of a receiving transceiver and a remote clock of an emitting transceiver comprises receiving by said receiving transceiver, a signal emitted by the emitting transceiver, said sig ...

Fluorescence microscopy techniques are well established research tools and have proven their use in a large variety of biomedical applications. Microscopic molecular contrast is achieved by imaging fluorescent dyes that bind specifically to a molecule of i ...

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an interferometric imaging technique that can provide depth resolved cross-sectional views of biological tissue. OCT employs light with low temporal and yet high spatial coherence. The sample is illuminated point by po ...

Photonic crystals (PhC) are periodically structured electromagnetic media, in which light within some frequency ranges cannot propagate through the structure. Such frequency ranges are commonly referred as photonic band gaps (PBG). The length scale of the ...

Dynamic control of the speed of a light signal, based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in optical fibers, was theoretically studied and also experimentally demonstrated as the core object of this thesis. To date, slow light based on stimulated Brillouin ...

This thesis presents a novel approach for optical tri-dimensional contouring, requiring only one acquisition to extract a contour depth. It is based on an interferometric setup, using a reduced coherence light source, and is fully adaptable to endoscopic p ...

A novel technique to produce large all-optically controlled tunable delays of 100 ps pulse train in optical fibers is demonstrated. The configuration of the delay line basically consists of two main stages: the wavelength conversion via semiconductor optic ...

We studied the influence of signal variability on human and model observers for detection tasks with realistic simulated masses superimposed on real patient mammographic backgrounds and synthesized mammographic backgrounds (clustered lumpy backgrounds, CLB ...

A new holographic technique combining digital holographic microscopy with the use of low coherence light has been developed and the potential of the resulting method for vision in turbid media and biomedical imaging has been evaluated. In digital holograph ...

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. The clouding of the human eye lens is called "Grauer Star" in German. In the industrialized countries this process of increased blindness is corrected by the surgical removal of the clouded lens and its ...
