Facial paralysis is a highly burdening condition, resulting in a patient's inability to move his musculature on one or both sides of the mouth. The restoration of facial movement is crucial for enhancing the overall patients' quality of life. The use of DE ...

With the increase in penetration of power electronic converters in the power systems, a demand for overcurrent/ overloading capability has risen for the fault clearance duration. This article gives an overview of the limiting factors and the recent technol ...

The progressive displacing of conventional generation in favor of renewable energy sources requires restoring an adequate capacity of regulating power to ensure reliable operation of power systems. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) are considered to b ...

Medical implant devices have found widespread application in recent years. The Super-Regenerative Receiver has been one preferred architecture due to its power advantage over other architectures. We present a detailed analysis of the circuits and their equ ...

This paper presents the converter configuration acting as a medium voltage DC source. In order to obtain desired voltage across the DC terminals, two series connected modular multilevel converters are used. The use of modular multilevel converters results ...

Microcontroller systems operating at low supply voltage in near- or sub-threshold regime suffer both from increased effects of PVT (Process, Voltage, Temperature) variation and from a larger share of leakage on overall power due to the reduced frequency. W ...

In the past half-century, the semiconductor industry has relied on the scaling of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) transistor dimensions and on material and geometrical innovations to increase the computational density. Approaching the end of ...

Steep-slope transistors allow to scale down the supply voltage and the energy per computed bit of information as compared to conventional field-effect transistors (FETs), due to their sub-60 mV/decade subthreshold swing at room temperature. Currently pursu ...

The semiconductor industry, governed by the Moore's law, has achieved the almost unbelievable feat of exponentially increasing performance while lowering the costs for years. The main enabler for this achievement has been the scaling of the CMOS transistor ...

Organic thin-film transistors (TFTs) have undergone tremendous progress in the past few years. Their great potential in terms of mechanical flexibility, light weight, low-cost and large-area fabrication makes them promising candidates for novel electronic ...

In the last decade the power consumption of electronic devices has increased for both static and active components. Following the Dennard's scaling rule, as long as the transistor sizes are reduced then the supply voltage (VDD) can also be scaled in order ...

A system for wireless power transfer and data communication of implantable bio-monitoring systems is presented. The proposed solution uses a servo-controlled power transmitter moved under the animal moving space. An x-y movable magnetic coil transmits the ...

This paper deals with a power management mechanism using Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) with integrated energy storage elements, the typical use of which could be a grid-interface for a photovoltaic park or a charging park for electric vehicles. In com ...

The soaring demand for computing power in our digital information age has produced as collateral undesirable effect a surge in power consumption and heat density for computing servers. Accordingly, 30-40% of the energy consumed in state-of-the-art servers ...

From the electrical point of view, the body and the anode of high power gyrotrons behave as capacitive loads. A highly dynamic power supply is, therefore, hard to achieve. The MAGY concept (Modulator for the Anode of a triode type GYrotron) embodies an inn ...

This paper presents a Discrete-time Model Predictive-based Control strategy for the voltage regulation of an islanded distributed generation (DG) unit. The DG unit includes a voltage source converter (VSC) interfaced to the grid through a switch and a coup ...

This article discusses system-level techniques to optimize the power-performance trade-off in subthreshold circuits and presents a uniform platform for implementing ultra-low power power-scalable analog and digital integrated circuits. The proposed techniq ...

This paper addresses the design of a new hybrid MEMS micromotor. It is a small 3-phases axial flux BLDC motor. The stator is realized following the almost CMOS technology rules used for MEMS manufacture and the coils have two copper layers. The rotor is ma ...
