A model for the simulation of the tokamak boundary is described, which is mass-conserving to leading order in rho s / R 0 (where rho s is the ion sound Larmor radius and R-0 is the tokamak major radius at the magnetic axis). The model integrates a three-di ...

The influence of drifting and blowing snow on surface mass and energy exchange is difficult to quantify due to limitations in both measurements and models, but is still potentially very important over large areas with seasonal or perennial snow cover. We p ...

The seminal work of DiPerna and Lions (Invent Math 98(3):511-547, 1989) guarantees the existence and uniqueness of regular Lagrangian flows for Sobolev vector fields. The latter is a suitable selection of trajectories of the related ODE satisfying addition ...

The first observation of exotic states with a new quark content ccus decaying to the J/Psi K+ final state is reported with high significance from an amplitude analysis of the B+-> J/ Psi phi K+ decay. The analysis is carried out using proton-proton collisi ...

High-altitude catchments have a major role in the transport of organic matter to streams due to the storage of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in soils and glacier ice and the subsequent mobilization during the melting processes. Yet, stream function goes b ...

The impacts of glacier mass and area loss are assumed to affect stream hydrology and related ecosystems. We applied wavelet analysis to high frequency time series of discharge, conductivity, turbidity, air and water temperature in mountain streams influenc ...

The OpenFOAM Fuel BEhavior Analysis Tool, or OFFBEAT, is a multi-dimensional fuel performance code under collaborative development at the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Systems Behaviour (LRS) of the EPFL and at the PSI. The code can be used both for s ...

Sea ice is an important component of the global climate system. The presence of a snowpack covering sea ice can strongly modify the thermodynamic behavior of the sea ice, due to the low thermal conductivity and high albedo of snow. The snowpack can be stra ...

Glacier-fed streams (GFSs) exhibit near-freezing temperatures, variable flows, and often high turbidities. Currently, the rapid shrinkage of mountain glaciers is altering the delivery of meltwater, solutes, and particulate matter to GFSs, with unknown cons ...
