This thesis explores the diverse chemistry of thorium and uranium coordination polymers, focusing on actinides in +4 and +5 oxidation states, and their reactivity with various ligands. While uranium predominantly exists as the uranyl cation [UO2]2+ in the ...

Gold plays a dominant role in our modern society. Initially used in coinage and jewelry, it has become an essential metal for the electronics industries. Today, more gold is consumed than mined from virgin ores. Therefore, gold recycling methods have becom ...

Organic azides are known for their reactivity and broad applicability in organic synthesis. These compounds are pivotal in various chemical transformations, including nucleophilic substitution and cycloaddition reactions. Beyond synthetic chemistry, organi ...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a rapidly growing class of materials that offer great promise in various applications. However, the synthesis remains challenging: for example, a range of crystal structures can often be accessed from the same building b ...

The combination of palladium salts and bipyridyl ligands can lead to the formation of a large variety of coordination complexes, with different shapes and sizes, displaying a very versatile host-guest chemistry. Increasing their structural complexity remai ...

Cupredoxins are widely occurring copper-binding proteins with a typical Greek-key beta barrel fold. They are generally described as electron carriers that rely on a T1 copper centre coordinated by four ligands provided by the folded polypeptide. The discov ...

Ordered two-dimensional (2D) materials hosting Å-scale pores are highly promising for enabling challenging separation, thanks to well-defined pore geometry resulting in tight confinement of ions when hosted inside the pore. In addition, the 2D nature of th ...

Pt(II)-based molecular catalysts stand as a prototypical system in hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) owing to their consistently elevated activity levels. Their integration into heterogeneous systems thus provides an ideal platform to develop catalytic ma ...

The design and discovery of potential novel materials is critical for the advancement of climate change mitigation technologies. In this respect, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have received considerable attention over the last two decades. The combinatio ...

The combination of several interesting characteristics makes metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) a highly sought-after class of nanomaterials for a broad range of applications like gas storage and separation, catalysis, drug delivery, and so on. However, the e ...

Bent (hetero)allenes such as carbodicarbenes and carbodiphosphoranes can act as neutral C-donor ligands, and diverse applications in coordination chemistry have been reported. N-Heterocyclic diazoolefins are heterocumulenes, which can function in a similar ...

We mine from the literature experimental data on the CO2 electrochemical reduction selectivity of Cu single crystal surfaces. We then probe the accuracy of a machine learning model trained to predict faradaic efficiencies for 11 CO2 reduction reaction prod ...

Single-layer graphene, hosting a high density of functionalized molecular-sieving atom-thick pores, is considered to be an excellent material for gas separation membranes. These functionalized atom-thick pores enable the shortest transport pathway across t ...

Why are materials with specific characteristics more abundant than others? This is a fundamental question in materials science and one that is traditionally difficult to tackle, given the vastness of compositional and configurational space. We highlight he ...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) host intrinsically porous structure and rich structural and chemical features. Several MOFs with pore aperture comparable to the size of gas molecules have attracted interest to form the selective layer of membranes. Synthes ...

Structure determinationof molecular solids through NMR crystallographyrelies on the generation of a comprehensive set of candidate crystalstructures and on the comparison of chemical shifts computed for thosecandidates with experimental values. Exploring t ...

MOFs are a class of porous crystalline materials whose unique properties have led to applicability in several fields ranging from gas adsorption to drug delivery. Despite their high potential, MOFs are usually found as fine powders, a property that can lim ...

An electrophile-induced semipinacol rearrangement of cyclopropenylcarbinols is reported. This transformation gives access to various polyfunctionalized cyclopropanes under mild metal-free conditions. The scope of the reaction includes iodine, sulfur and se ...

Curcuminoids and their complexes continue to attract attention in medicinal chemistry, but little attention has been given to their metabolic derivatives. Here, the first examples of (arene)Ru(II) complexes with curcuminoid metabolites, tetrahydrocurcumin ...

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) stand out as prospective organic-based photocatalysts given their intriguing optoelectronic properties, such as visible light absorption and high charge-carrier mobility. The "Clean, Uniform, Refined with Automatic Tracki ...
