Semiaromatic polyamides are used for metal replacementin advancedengineering applications to reduce weight and improve efficiency, but their range of application is limited by their inherent lack ofductility and toughness. Here, we combined semiaromatic pol ...

The synthesis of high-performance gas-sieving zeolitic film is challenging because it involves seeded secondary growth which is complex and difficult to reproduce. Additionally, expensive asymmetric inorganic porous supports are often needed for calcinatio ...

Copolymerizing poly(hexamethylene terephthalamide-co-isophthalamide) (PA6TI) with 40 wt% polyamide 66 (PA66) results in only minor decreases in modulus and yield stress owing to isomorphous substitution of PA6TI units by PA66 units in the PA6TI alpha phase ...

CO-selective metals (e.g., Ag) on Cu catalysts improve the selec-tivity of multi-carbon (C2+) products in electrochemical CO2 reduc-tion. However, the origin of the improvement remains unclear due to the convolution of tandem and interface effects. Here, A ...

The development of more sustainable material solutions is one of the key challenges today. New materials are subject to an overall risk assessment of which their impact on the environment is an important aspect. The biodegradability of a material may suppo ...

Polymer brushes are a specific class of polymer thin films in which each chain is tethered to the underlying substrate via one chain end. In sufficiently densely grafted assemblies, the individual polymer chains are forced into an extended chain conformati ...

Membrane electrode assembly (MEA) electrolyzers offer a means to scale up CO2-to-ethylene electroconversion using renewable electricity and close the anthropogenic carbon cycle. To date, excessive CO2 coverage at the catalyst surface with limited active si ...

The implementation of an electrochemical flow cell has enabled improved efficiency for CO2 reduction. However, in situ spectroscopic insights into the interface are still lacking. Here, we investigate a series of copper layers with different thicknesses on ...

The natural anionic polyelectrolyte alginate and its derivatives are of particular interest for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications. Most interesting for such applications are alginate hydrogels, which can be processed into various shapes, self-stan ...

Designing compounds that bind to the acidic patch of the nucleosome core particle (NCP) is an emerging therapeutic approach that can inhibit the binding of key chromatin factors. Pretreatment of human ovarian carcinoma, A2780, cells with RAPTA-T, an antime ...

Effects of ion concentration and active layer thickness play a critical role on the performance of light-emitting electrochemical cells. Expanding on a pioneering materials system comprising the super yellow (SY) polymer and the electrolyte trimethylolprop ...

A critical challenge in scaffold design for tissue engineering is recapitulating the complex biochemical patterns that regulate cell behavior in vivo. In this work, we report the adaptation of a standard sterilization methodology-UV irradiation-for pattern ...

Thin coatings applied to surfaces dramatically improve the properties of materials. Thus, they have found application in a broad variety of areas including biomedicine, nanotechnology, bioelectronics and optics, amongst others. Polymer brushes prepared via ...

The use of polymers has revolutionized the field of drug delivery in the past two decades. Properties such as polymer size, charge, hydrophilicity, or branching have all been shown to play an important role in the cellular internalization of polymeric syst ...

With proper control over copolymer design and solvation conditions, self-assembled materials display impressive morphological variety that encompasses nanoscale colloids as well as bulk three-dimensional architectures. Here we take advantage of both hydrop ...

The application of hydrogels as load-bearing biomedical components is often limited by their mechanical properties. Often an attempt to improve a hydrogel's stiffness is accompanied by a loss of toughness and swelling properties. In this work, we show that ...

Over the last ten years the attention of the pharmaceutical industry has shifted away from small molecules to focus on new biologics such as antibodies, proteins and therapeutic peptides. Herein, peptides have emerged as a particularly interesting category ...

Multimetallic cooperative binding of heteroallenes provides an attractive route to their activation, but the reduction of CS2 at heterobimetallic sites, associating an electron-rich metal with a main group Lewis acid has not been explored. Here we show tha ...

Two principle topics are covered in this thesis. The first section deals with the development of novel synthetically useful multicomponent reactions. The development of three multicomponent reactions, based on α-iminonitriles, is presented. The first descr ...

Boronate esters that contain N-donor groups are self-complementary structures, which can assemble by means of dative boron–nitrogen bonds to form macrocycles or polymers. Herein, we describe the synthesis of dioxaborinanes and benzodioxaboroles containing ...
