This paper presents a novel planar four-bar linkage compliant mechanism (called 4-RCC) based on four flexure-based Remote Center of Compliance (RCC) pivots. With particular configurations and dimensions, the beam shortening of the RCC pivots can compensate ...

Recent advances in virtual reality and robotic technologies have allowed researchers to explore the mechanisms underlying bodily aspects of self-consciousness which are largely attributed to the multisensory and sensorimotor processing of bodily signals (b ...

The speed of change in the modern world is impressive. Within the last 50 years, many devices and technologies have significantly transformed their appearance, intrinsic characteristics and improved their performance. Computers have changed from the size o ...

Lumped parameter model and mock circulation loop are two tools commonly used in biomedical research to simulate cardiac system in order to study different assist devices. In this paper, a lumped parameter model is proposed to simulate a circulation loop. T ...

In many applications, a dataset can be considered as a set of observed signals that live on an unknown underlying graph structure. Some of these signals may be seen as white noise that has been filtered on the graph topology by a graph filter. Hence, the k ...

We present an alternative implementation of the Kalman filter employed for track fitting within the LHCb experiment. It uses simple parametrizations for the extrapolation of particle trajectories in the field of the LHCb dipole magnet and for the effects o ...

A compressed air driven generator is proposed, where the pneumatic energy is converted into mechanical energy using two vane-type rotational actuators. The use of a second actuator with a higher displacement in order to produce a thermodynamic expansion al ...

This paper gives a new formulation to design adaptive structures through total energy optimization (TEO). This methodology enables the design of truss as well as tensegrity configurations that are equipped with linear actuators to counteract the effect of ...

A haptic device is disclosed comprising at least one fluidic actuator operatively connectable with pumping means; and a plurality of movable members mechanically connected with said at least one fluidic actuator, wherein said movable members can perform a ...

Here we adapt and evaluate a full-face snorkel mask for use as personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers, who lack appropriate alternatives during the COVID-19 crisis in the spring of 2020. The design (referred to as Pneumask) consists of ...

Recent advances in soft actuators have enabled systems that are safer to interact with, better at handling fragile objects, able to produce complex shapes with fewer components. However, being inherently soft differs these actuators from their rigid counte ...

This letter presents closed-loop position control of a pneumatically actuated modular robotic platform "pneumagami" that can be stacked to enlarge work and design space for wearable applications. The module is a 3 degrees of freedom (DoF) parallel robot wi ...
