Plasma shape control is a fundamental tool for effective tokamak operation, allowing improved plasma performance and the pursuit of challenging scientific objectives. In this framework, the Tokamak á Configuration Variable (TCV) of the École Polytechnique ...

Plasma edge simulations with the SOLPS-ITER code are performed to study the influence of divertor baffles on nitrogen-seeded detachment in Tokamak & agrave; Configuration Variable (TCV) single-null, L-mode discharges. Scans of nitrogen seeding rate are con ...

This database is associated with the following paper: L-H power threshold for neutral beam heated plasmas with Deuterium, Hydrogen, Helium and mixed ion species in TCV Benoit Labit, Filippo Bagnato, Basil P Duval, Alexander N Karpushov, Bryan Lee Linehan, ...

The quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regime is a type-I ELM-free high confinement regime obtained at high plasma shaping and high separatrix density. A comparison with various ELM-free regimes in the literature is presented together with potential physics mo ...

The plasma density is a crucial parameter of tokamak discharge as it impacts the fusion power, stability limits, influences detachment onset and impurities transport. The electron density profile shaping affects the deposition location of the external heat ...

Helicon discharges are often considered somewhat mysterious, exhibiting experimental behaviors that are challenging to explain, such as abrupt plasma density jumps, hysteresis, and ‘blue core’ formation, among others. A significant part of the difficulty i ...

In tokamaks, rotating magneto-hydro-dynamic modes frequently decelerate as their amplitude increases. Once a critical threshold in amplitude is reached, these modes stop rotating into a specific toroidal and poloidal position and are commonly named Locked ...

We analyze a measure for the degree of chaos in the magnetic fields of magnetic confinement fusion reactors by calculating the lobe fluxes of turnstiles - a method developed for characterizing transport into and out of resonance zones in Hamiltonian dynami ...

Metasurfaces provide an ideal platform for optical sensing because they produce strong light-field confinement and enhancement over extended regions that allow us to identify deep-subwavelength layers of organic and inorganic molecules. However, the requir ...

In preparation for error field (EF) identification experiments in ITER, a series of experiments have been conducted at JET to test the portability of the non-disruptive compass scan, a method originally designed and tested in DIII-D (Paz-Soldan et al 2022 ...

JET returned to deuterium-tritium operations in 2023 (DTE3 campaign), approximately two years after DTE2. DTE3 was designed as an extension of JET’s 2022-2023 deuterium campaigns, which focused on developing scenarios for ITER and DEMO, integrating in-dept ...

We present a model for the particle balance in the post-disruption runaway electron plateau phase of a tokamak discharge. The model is constructed with the help of, and applied to, experimental data from TCV discharges investigating the so-called 'low-Z be ...

Negative triangularity (NT) scenarios in TCV have been compared to positive triangularity (PT) scenarios using the same plasma shapes foreseen for divertor tokamak test tokamak operations. The experiments provided a NT/PT L-mode pair and a PT H-mode with d ...

The SMall Aspect Ratio Tokamak (SMART) under commissioning at the University of Seville, Spain, aims to explore confinement properties and possible advantages in confinement for compact/spherical tokamaks operating at negative vs. positive triangularity. T ...

Carbon impurity transport is studied in the TCV tokamak using a charge exchange recombination diagnostic. TCVs flexible shaping capabilities were exploited to extend previous impurity transport studies to negative triangularity (delta < 0). A practical way ...

Plasmas with negative triangularity (NT) shape have been recently shown to be able to achieve H-mode levels of confinement in L-mode, avoiding detrimental edge localised modes. Therefore, this plasma geometry is now studied as a possible viable option for ...

In magnetic fusion devices, error field (EF) sources, spurious magnetic field perturbations, need to be identified and corrected for safe and stable (disruption-free) tokamak operation. Within Work Package Tokamak Exploitation RT04, a series of studies hav ...

The official Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production mission aims to demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion with the STEP Prototype Power plant. One of the key technological and engineering challenges in fusion power plants is mana ...

This work explains the anomalously high runaway electron (RE) pitch angles inferred in the flat-top of dedicated Tokamak a Configuration Variable (TCV) experiments. Kinetic modelling shows that the resonant interaction between the gyromotion of the electro ...

Nuclear fusion presents a promising clean energy source to mitigate future energy crises, with magnetic confinement fusion well-positioned to provide a baseload scenario to power future reactors. The unmitigated power exhaust of such reactors threatens its ...
