We investigate a layer of cobalt tetrapyridyl porphyrins (CoTPyPs) self-assembled on an almost freestanding graphene (GR) sheet supported by Ir(111) with complementary experimental techniques and density functional theory (DFT) ab initio simulations. Besid ...

Phonon anharmonicity plays a crucial role in determining the stability and vibrational properties of high-pressure hydrides. Furthermore, strong anharmonicity can render phonon quasiparticle picture obsolete questioning standard approaches for modeling sup ...

The constant urge to construct new molecules in an economical and sustainable fashion led to the development of numerous metal-catalyzed transformations. Organocatalysts consisting of abundant and more sustainable elements offer an elegant solution to over ...

Controlled atomic patterning is an attractive tool to fine tune properties of graphitic lattice. Several O-functionalized derivatives of graphitic lattice have been widely studied, e.g., graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, and functionalized carbon nan ...

In my thesis, I present an investigation of the dissociation reactions of gas phase molecules on single crystal metal surfaces studied by a molecular beam in combination with Reflection Absorption Infrared Spectroscopy (RAIRS). Two gas/surface systems were ...

Oxidase-type oxidation is an attractive strategy in organic synthesis due to the use of O-2 as the terminal oxidant. Organic photocatalysis can effect metal-free oxidase chemistry. Nevertheless, current methods are limited in reaction scope, possibly due t ...

Earth has always been in perpetual evolution, but today we must face its rapid change due to human activity. The intensification of industrial activities and transportation to support our modern lifestyles are the main causes of climate change and the adve ...

We report an enantioselective palladium-catalyzed trans-hydroalkoxylation of propargylic amines with a trifluoroacetaldehydederived tether to build chiral oxazolidines. Diastereoselective hydrogenation using a heterogeneous palladium catalyst then gave acc ...

In dilute nitride InyGa1-yAs1-xNx alloys, a spatially controlled tuning of the energy gap can be realized by combining the introduction of N atoms-inducing a significant reduction of this parameter-with that of hydrogen atoms, which neutralize the effect o ...

The conversion of intermittent renewable energy resources in the form of chemical bond, such as hydrogen production from electrochemical water splitting, is a promising way to satisfy the future global energy demand and address the environmental issues. Th ...

Tetrel Lewis acids are a prospective alternative to commonly employed neutral boranes in frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry. While cationic tetrylium Lewis acids, being isolobal and iso(valence)electronic, are a natural replacement to boranes, neutral t ...

The reaction of readily available and bench-stable N-alkoxypyridinium salts with arylboronic and vinylboronic acids afforded delta-aryl and delta-vinyl alcohols, respectively, in the presence of fac-Ir(ppy)(3) and Cu(OTf)(2) dual catalysts. The reaction ta ...

The development of radical-based remote C(sp3)-H functionalizations of redox-active alcohol derivatives, oxidative cycloaddition and rearrangement transformations under visible light photocatalysis constitute the basis of this thesis. The first chapter des ...

Under mild dual photoredox/copper catalysis, the reaction of N-alkoxypyridinium salts with readily available silyl reagents (TMSN3, TMSCN, TMSNCS) afforded d-azido, d-cyano, and d-thiocyanato alcohols in high yields. The reaction went through a domino proc ...

Modifying the properties of bio-based materials has garnered increasing interest in recent years. In related applications, the ability of alginates to complex with metal ions has been shown to be effective in liquid-to-gel transitions, useful in the develo ...

This paper describes the synthesis of Pd-containing catalysts based on nonfunctionalized hypercrosslinked polystyrene via impregnation with Pd acetate. Developed Pd nanoparticulate catalyst allowed achieving conversion of aryl halide up to 90% in Suzuki cr ...

The main focus of this thesis is the exploration of inorganic and metal-organic heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogen (H2) energy applications. In particular, we investigated metal nanoparticles (NPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for their employment ...

The Hofmann-Löffler-Freytag (HLF) reaction is a prototypical example of radical-based remote functionalization of unactivated C(sp3)–H bond. While 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer (1,5-HAT) of the amidyl radical is thermodynamically favorable and is well-establi ...

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to multi-carbon products such as ethylene, ethanol and n-propanol offers a promising path for utilization of excessive CO2 and energy storage. Oxide-derived Cu electrodes are among the best electrocatalysts ...

Reported herein is an unprecedented copper-catalyzed arylation of remote C(sp3)-H bonds. Stirring a trifluorotoluene solution of either N fluorocarboxamides or N-fluorosulfonamides and arylboronic acids in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper(II) t ...
