Drought monitoring is a critical environmental challenge, particularly in regions where irrigated agricultural intensification and urban expansion pressure water resources. This study assesses the impact of these activities on drought dynamics in Morocco’s ...

Background and objectives Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) are common in older people with cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease (AD). No biomarkers to detect the related pathology or predict the clinical evolution of NPS are available yet. This stud ...

Metabolic changes precede malignant histology. However, it remains unclear whether detectable characteristic metabolome exists in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) tissues and biofluids for early diagnosis. Here, we conduct NMR- and MS-based metabo ...

We discuss how the combination of experimental observations and rapid modeling has enabled to improve understanding of the tokamak ramp-down phase in ASDEX Upgrade. A series of dedicated experiments has been performed, to disentangle the effect of individu ...

Designing architectural façades that allow sufficient daylight to create visually comfortable and pleasant environments is a challenging aspect of building design. It requires accounting for visual comfort and discomfort glare risks and understanding the f ...

The latest European polices highlight the urgent need to rehabilitate the existing building stock, responsible for 40 % of the EU's total energy consumption. In this process, a key role is played by thermal simulations, assessing the effective energy perfo ...

Deep neural networks have become ubiquitous in today's technological landscape, finding their way in a vast array of applications. Deep supervised learning, which relies on large labeled datasets, has been particularly successful in areas such as image cla ...

Many methods exist to model snow densification in order to calculate the depth of a single snow layer or the depth of the total snow cover from its mass. Most of these densification models need to be tightly integrated with an accumulation and melt model a ...

To understand how daylight gives shape and life to architectural spaces, whether existing or imagined, requires quantifying its dynamism and energy. Maintaining these details presents a challenge to simulation and analysis methods that flatten data into di ...

This article provides a comprehensive review of the most recent advances in the planning, execution, and analysis of inflow and wake measurements from nacelle-mounted wind Doppler lidars. Lidars installed on top of wind turbines provide a holistic view of ...

When studying discomfort glare, researchers tend to rely on a single questionnaire item to obtain user evaluations. It is unclear whether the choice of questionnaire item affects the distribution of user responses and leads to inconsistencies between studi ...

Avoiding discomfort glare is one of the critical aspects of maintaining visual comfort, which significantly influences occupants' overall satisfaction with their indoor environment. Discomfort glare prediction models have been developed for various lightin ...

With the growing awareness about ipRGC-influenced light (IIL) responses, design applications related to these responses are flourishing. To compare design options and optimize lighting conditions for building occupants, lighting simulations are typically u ...

ObjectiveTo construct a new pulmonary nodule diagnostic model with high diagnostic efficiency, non-invasive and simple to measure. MethodsThis study included 424 patients with radioactive pulmonary nodules who underwent preoperative 7-autoantibody (7-AAB) ...

A recent study on the glare protection performance of electrochromic (EC) glazing showed that visible transmittance levels lower than 0.6% are necessary to achieve comfortable situations for sun positions, that were close to the central field of view. Howe ...

Characteristics of the spent nuclear fuel (SNF) are typically calculated, requiring validation a priori. The validation process relies on the difference between calculations and measurements, namely the bias. Usually, predicting the bias based on benchmark ...

Access to daylight and views out are usually recognized as beneficial to occupant comfort at the workplace. Simultaneously, discomfort glare due to direct sunlight is a known source of occupant dissatisfaction. Shading fabrics with low openness factor have ...

The performance of myoelectric control highly depends on the features extracted from surface electromyographic (sEMG) signals. We propose three new sEMG features based on the kernel density estimation. The trimmed mean of density (TMD), the entropy of dens ...

Cross-validation is commonly used to select the recommendation algorithms that will generalize best on yet unknown data. Yet, in many situations the available dataset used for cross-validation is scarce and the selected algorithm might not be the best suit ...

The adaptable transmittance of electrochromic glazing allows to control the solar radiation entering buildings, yet the level of transmittance needed to protect from glare is still an unanswered question. To bridge this gap, this study evaluates the level ...
