3D displays are becoming available to mainstream consumers, offering the ability to view and interact with 3D content without wearing AR/VR glasses. This paper reports the findings of a user study that compares the performance of a range of different input ...

Background Neurological disorders, such as stroke and chronic pain syndromes, profoundly impact independence and quality of life, especially when affecting upper extremity (UE) function. While conventional physical therapy has shown effectiveness in provid ...

IntroductionOne-third of mothers rate their childbirth as traumatic. The prevalence of childbirth-related post-traumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) is 4.7%. Skin-to-skin contact is a protective factor against CB-PTSD. However, during a caesarean section (CS ...

Head tracking combined with head movements have been shown to improve auditory externalization of a virtual sound source and contribute to the performance in localization. With certain technically constrained head-tracking algorithms, as can be found in we ...

The current approach to train Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is to employ a mannequin device replicating the physical properties of a real human head and torso. This aims to ensure a correct transfer of the cardiac massage location, amplitude and freq ...

Human visual system relies on both monocular focusness cues and binocular stereo cues to gain effective 3D perception. Correspondingly, depth from focus/defocus (DfF/DfD) and stereo matching are two most studied passive depth sensing schemes, which are tra ...

Head‐mounted displays for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) allow users to see highly realistic virtual worlds. The wearable haptics that enable feeling and touching these virtual objects are typically bulky, tethered, and provide only low fi ...

Omnidirectional imaging has reached a level of widespread availability driven by recent advances in integrated circuit technology, image sensors, and computer graphics which allow now capturing, rendering and displaying of such type of immersive content in ...

Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) enable users to interact with computers without any dedicated movement, bringing new hands-free interaction paradigms. In this paper we study the combination of BCI and Augmented Reality (AR). We first tested the feasibilit ...

Visual distortions in processed 360-degree visual content and consumed through head-mounted displays (HMDs) are perceived very differently when compared to traditional 2D content. To better understand how compression-related artifacts affect the overall pe ...

The cameras are invented by imitating the human visual system to capture the scene. The camera technologies have been substantially advanced in recent years. 108 MP resolution with 100x hybrid zoom has become standard features for smartphone flagships. In ...

Omnidirectional (or 360-degree) images and videos are emergent signals being used in many areas such as robotics and virtual/augmented reality. In particular, for virtual reality applications, they allow an immersive experience in which the user can intera ...

Traditionally, most multimedia content has been developed to stimulate two of the human senses, i.e., sight and hearing. Due to recent technological advancements, however, innovative services have been developed that provide more realistic, immersive, and ...

Here we catalog, visually demonstrate, and discuss the main causes of commonly encountered visual distortions into current 360-degree video processing pipelines. The main goal of the samples in this dataset is to demonstrate the visual distortions discusse ...

Modular robots (MRs) consist of similar modules that can be configured into different shapes. MRs introduce a number of benefits over conventional robots specifically designed for a task. Self-reconfigurable modular robots (SRMRs) are a sub-category of MRs ...

Modelling human visual attention is of great importance in the field of computer vision and has been widely explored for 3D imaging. Yet, in the absence of ground truth data, it is unclear whether such predictions are in alignment with the actual human vie ...

We present a low-cost solution to perform the online and realistic representation of users using an array of depth cameras. The system is composed of a cluster of 10 Microsoft Kinect 2 cameras, each one associated to a compact NUC PC to stream live depth & ...

We present a model and protocol that enable the generation of extremely stable computer glasses at minimal computational cost. The protocol consists of an instantaneous quench in an augmented potential energy landscape, with particle radii as additional de ...

Omnidirectional (or 360-degree) images and videos are emergent signals in many areas such as robotics and virtual/augmented reality. In particular, for virtual reality, they allow an immersive experience in which the user is provided with a 360-degree fiel ...

Recent advances in depth sensing and display technologies, along with the significant growth of interest for augmented and virtual reality applications, lay the foundation for the rapid evolution of applications that provide immersive experiences. In such ...
