High-resolution imaging in thick biological tissues beyond a few transport mean free path of photons remains a formidable challenge to modern science and technology. Recent advancements in optical tomography have enabled the reconstruction of the three-dim ...

Beyond their original capability to grab and hold tiny objects, optical tweezers have emerged as a powerful tool to investigate fundamental physics at microscopic scales. A precise characterization of the optical trap is one of the key requirements in such ...

We present optical tomography methods for a 3D refractive index reconstruction of weakly scattering objects using LED light sources. We are able to record holograms by minimizing the optical path difference between the signal and reference beams while sepa ...

Well-established imaging techniques proved that features below the diffraction limit can be observed optically using so-called super-resolution microscopies, which overcome Abbe's resolution limit. In traditional far-field microscopy, the introduction of f ...

An algorithm for the direct unwrapped phase estimation from the linearly phase shifted interferograms is presented. The temporal fringe intensity along each pixel is represented as a function of fringe amplitude, phase step and the searched phase. These pa ...

Examination of various issues related to the generation and application of optical frequency combs (OFCs) is an important branch of modern optoelectronics. Some of the proposed OFC generation methods apply acousto-optic (AO) devices. The AO devices are use ...

Fast, label-free, high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging platforms are crucial for high-throughput in vivo time-lapse studies of the anatomy of Caenorhabditis elegans, one of the most commonly used model organisms in biomedical research. Despite the ne ...

Structural and functional imaging of cells, tissues and organisms is crucial for understanding biomedical processes. Fluorescence microscopy is an established tool and has contributed to many discoveries in the life sciences. This technique provides molecu ...

Optical coherence microscopy (OCM) is an interferometric technique providing 3D images of biological samples with micrometric resolution and penetration depth of several hundreds of micrometers. OCM differs from optical coherence tomography (OCT) in that i ...

The aim of this thesis is to implement, analyze and improve the selected low noise clock generation and distribution techniques for ADC implementations. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the sampling phase generation and distr ...

Optical microscopy enables us to observe at high resolution and with a large field of view objects otherwise invisible for the naked eye. This is why it is becoming a fundamental tool in biology and in diagnostics, where observation at cellular level can t ...

In several domains of physics, including first principle simulations and classical models for polarizable systems, the minimization of an energy function with respect to a set of auxiliary variables must be performed to define the dynamics of physical degr ...

In Ti-intercalated self-doped 1T-TiSe2 crystals, the charge density wave (CDW) superstructure induces two nonequivalent sites for Ti dopants. Recently, it has been shown that increasing Ti doping dramatically influences the CDW by breaking it into phase-sh ...

The Mirror World is no longer an imaginary device, a mirage in a distant future, it is a reality under construction. In Europe, Asia and on the American continent, large companies and the best universities are working to build the infrastructures, to defin ...

Bloch surface waves (BSWs) are surface electromagnetic modes that propagate at the interface between a multilayer substrate and a homogeneous external medium. The optical field of the surface mode is confined near the surface of the multilayer. This vertic ...

Indo-Swiss Building Energy Efficiency Project (BEEP) is a cooperation project between the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation. Started in 2011, the project's central focus is to h ...

Volumetric datasets with micrometer spatial and sub-second temporal resolutions are nowadays routinely acquired using synchrotron X-ray tomographic microscopy (SRXTM). Although SRXTM technology allows the examination of multiple samples with short scan tim ...

This thesis focuses on the signal modelling of Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DW-MRI) in the brain's white matter (WM). DW-MRI a non-invasive technique with enormous potential for the study of the brain's microstructure by measuring the dif ...

We have recently shown that a posteriori co-phasing of multi-spectral interferograms was possible.(1) In this contribution, we extend our approach so that it can be applied to actual data as provided by AMBER(2) or MATISSE instruments. The main advantage o ...

Structured light generation having broad applications in different optical fields, is the topic of this thesis. Our structured light generation strategy is based on applying periodic microoptical elements at the refraction-diffraction limit, under a focuse ...
