In vitro skin models are validated methods for screening cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, but still have limitations. The bilayer poly(epsilon-caprolactone) scaffold/membrane model described here overcomes some of these deficits by integrating a solution ele ...

We study socio-political systems in representative democracies. Motivated by problems that affect the proper functioning of the system, we build computational methods to answer research questions regarding the phenomena occurring in them. For each phenomen ...

Background:Short-term forecasts of infectious disease burden can contribute to situational awareness and aid capacity planning. Based on best practice in other fields and recent insights in infectious disease epidemiology, one can maximise the predictive p ...

Lippmann (or interferential) photography is the first and only analog photography method that can capture the full color spectrum of a scene in a single take. This technique, invented more than a hundred years ago, records the colors by creating interferen ...

Modeling in neuroscience occurs at the intersection of different points of view and approaches. Typically, hypothesis-driven modeling brings a question into focus so that a model is constructed to investigate a specific hypothesis about how the system work ...

Jet injection devices have been studied and developed for transdermal drug delivery to avoid the use of needles. Such contact-less devices provide several advantages such as better dose control, lateral and depth localisation, lower collateral damage than ...

Skin problems are often overlooked due to a lack of robust and patient-friendly monitoring tools. Herein, we report a rapid, noninvasive, and high-throughput analytical chemical methodology, aiming at real-time monitoring of skin conditions and early detec ...

In this study, one method of using antennas based on fractals to cover few kinds of public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) communications was presented. Dedicated antenna forms, necessary for antenna design by 5G implementation, were enhanced to suit ...

A person’s passage of time perception (POTP) is strongly linked to their mental state and stress response, and can therefore provide an easily quantifiable means of continuous mental health monitoring. In this work, we develop a custom experiment and Machi ...

Fast liquid jets are investigated for use as a needle-free drug delivery system into an elastic tissue such as skin. Using smaller jet diameters in a repetitive regime can mitigate bruising and pain associated with current injectors. In this study, we aim ...

The present invention describes an adhesive tape stripping transfer method for quick and non-invasive diagnosis of skin diseases by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis. Cells from the epidermis layer of a suspicious skin area of a patient are collected us ...

Human alpha 1-antitrypsin (AAT) is an abundant acute phase glycoprotein expressing anti-protease and immunomodulatory activities, and is used as a biopharmaceutical to treat patients with inherited AAT deficiency. The pleiotropic properties of AAT provide ...

The Alfven Eigenmode Active Diagnostic system (AEAD) has undergone a major upgrade and redesign to provide a state-of-the-art excitation and real-time detection system for JET. The new system consists of individual 4 kW amplifiers allowing for increased cu ...

This article presents a new model for the main hydration peaks of tricalcium silicate and alite on the assumption that C-S-H nucleates and grows as needles. The model relies only on directly observable quantities and reproduces the transition from the acce ...

Timber folded surface structures assembled using semi-rigid multiple tab and slot joints (MTSJ) have been shown to form feasible structural systems with high load bearing potential. However, for their further development and use on large building scales, a ...

Experiments at JET showed locally enhanced, asymmetric beryllium (Be) erosion at outer wall limiters when magnetically connected ICRH antennas were in operation. A first modeling effort using the 3D erosion and scrape-off layer impurity transport modeling ...

Brain stroke is an age-related illness which has become a major issue in our ageing societies. Early diagnosis and treatment are of high importance for the full recovery of the patient, as reminded in Anglo-Saxon countries by the abbreviation FAST (Face, A ...

A large area antenna generates a plasma by both inductive and capacitive coupling; it is an electromagnetically coupled plasma source. In this work, experiments on a large area planar RF antenna source are interpreted in terms of a multi-conductor transmis ...

The paper provides an overview of coreless open-loop current transducers based on Hall effect sensor CSA-1V. Depending on the implementation method and current range, the presented transducers are divided in the four groups. The transducers are capable to ...
