Chirality is a fundamental property widely observed in nature, arising in objects without a proper rotation axis, therefore existing as forms with distinct handedness. This characteristic can profoundly impact the properties of materials and can enable new ...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a rapidly growing class of materials that offer great promise in various applications. However, the synthesis remains challenging: for example, a range of crystal structures can often be accessed from the same building b ...

A dinuclear metal-organic cage with four acrylate side chains was prepared by self-assembly. Precipitation polymerization of the cage with N-isopropylacrylamide yielded a thermoresponsive nanogel. The host properties of the cage were retained within the ge ...

The combination of palladium salts and bipyridyl ligands can lead to the formation of a large variety of coordination complexes, with different shapes and sizes, displaying a very versatile host-guest chemistry. Increasing their structural complexity remai ...

The design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) having large pore sizes and volumes often requires the use of complex organic ligands, currently synthesized using costly and time-consuming palladium-catalyzed coupling chemistry. Thus, in the present work, a ...

Chirality is a structural property of molecules lacking mirror symmetry that has strong implications in diverse fields, ranging from life sciences to materials science. Chirality-sensitive spectroscopic methods, such as circular dichroism, exhibit weak sig ...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have firmly established in the field of porous materials since their early discovery in the 1990s. With a plethora of applications, these materials offer endless possibilities owing to their tunable, modular nature. The vast ...

Chiral optical switches, which use light to control chirality in a reversible manner, offer unique properties and fascinating prospects in the areas of molecular switching and responsive systems, new photochromic materials and molecular data processing and ...

The work presented in this thesis is focused on the design and discovery of new luminescent, porous, crystalline materials for targeted applications. In particular, we focus on luminescent Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Organic Molecules of Intrinsic ...

Colloidal atomic layer deposition (c-ALD) enables the growth of hybrid organic/inorganic oxide shells with tunable thickness at the nanometer scale around ligand-functionalized inorganic nanoparticles (NPs). This recently developed method has demonstrated ...

Pyrene is one of the most widely investigated aromatic hydrocarbons given to its unique optical and electronic properties. Hence, pyrene-based ligands have been attractive for the synthesis of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) in the last few years. In this ...

Constrained by the Nielsen-Ninomiya no-go theorem, in all so-far experimentally determined Weyl semimetals (WSMs) the Weyl points (WPs) always appear in pairs in the momentum space with no exception. As a consequence, Fermi arcs occur on surfaces which con ...

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) into valuable chemicals has the potential to realize a carbon-neutral energy cycle. Developing catalysts that can achieve high selectivity towards one of the possible reduction products is one of the bigge ...

Hydrogen fuel cell is a promising green technology that transforms the chemical energy in hydrogen into electricity. Currently, most of the efforts are focused on developing proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), however they are heavily dependent o ...

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) are promising materials for photocatalytic applications. MOFs modular and porosity structure provides a platform to assemble photo-active and catalytic-sites building block units that can offer unique photo-physics. This feat ...

Functionalizing metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with amines is a commonly used strategy to enhance their performance in CO2 capture applications. As such, in this work, a two-step strategy to covalently functionalize NH2-containing MOFs with short chain po ...

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are an emerging class of materials that consist of metal ions which are linked with organic ligands via coordination bonds to form extended networks. MOF structures consists predominantly of open voids which makes them among ...

During the last decades, intensive efforts have been applied to tackle the enormous emissions of CO2 into atmosphere. These efforts include not only developing efficient carbon capture techniques, but also the introduction of new ways to transform the capt ...

Metal-organic framework (MOFs) and related nanoporous materials have emerged as promising candidates for a variety of applications, such as gas separation and storage, catalysis, sensing, etc. Their building block structure allows us to generate a huge num ...

In this work, we performed electrochemical investigations of Fe-binding ligands in water samples collected in autumn 2011 along the Australian GEOTRACES southwestern Pacific section (GP13, between 153 degrees E and 170 degrees W longitude along the 30 degr ...
