TCV’s operating regime with an X-point radiator (XPR) has been broadened by changing the magnetic geometry. XPRs have properties that could make them an attractive power exhaust solution for fusion reactors. These include the conversion of a high fraction ...

One challenge in designing RF wireless bioelectronic devices is the impact of the interaction between electromagnetic waves and host body tissues on far-field wireless performance. In this paper, we investigate a peculiar phenomenon of implantable RF wirel ...

DEMO will have a limited diagnostic set for optimization of reactor performance, and limited diagnostic coverage due to challenging reactor conditions. This poses challenges for control, especially for detachment control which is planned to be performed wi ...

This experimental study presents an in-depth investigation of the performance of the MAST-U Super-X divertor during NBI-heated operation (up to 2.5 MW) focussing on volumetric ion sources and sinks as well as power losses during detachment. The particle ba ...

A method and a setup for light detection and ranging are disclosed. The setup is configured to carry out the following method: generating signal radiation (S) at multiple signal frequencies (fs) with an optical signal source (1), wherein the signal radiati ...

Climate changes influence lake hydrodynamics and radiation levels and thus may affect the fate and transport of waterborne pathogens in lakes. This study examines the impact of climate change on the fate, transport, and associated risks of four waterborne ...

Controlling and shaping radiation beams is fundamental for a better understanding of radiation-matter interaction and advancing experimental techniques for material characterization at high spatial resolution. In particular, the current trend in the miniat ...

ITER is of key importance in the European fusion roadmap as it aims to prove the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion as a future energy source. The EUROfusion consortium of labs within Europe is contributing to the preparation of ITER scient ...

The next generation of high-energy physics (HEP) detectors will predominantly be silicon-based. As pixel sensor technology gains momentum and the number of channels surpasses one billion (for a volume of approximately 20 m3) to achieve the high resolution ...

On ASDEX Upgrade a prioritized ‘advanced Tokamak’ program has been run during the last two experimental campaigns, focusing on the effect of non-standard current profiles on the behavior of high beta plasmas. Two lines of non-standard (i.e. non-sawtoothing ...

Several recent publications show that the electromagnetic radiation generated by transmitting antennas satisfy the following universal conditions: The time domain radiation fields satisfy the condition A ≥ h/4π ⇒ q ≥ e where A is the action of the radiatio ...

Titanium-based Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) manufactured by additive manufacturing offer tremendous lightweighting opportunities. However, processing the high reinforcement contents needed to substantially improve elastic modulus while conserving signifi ...

The official Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production mission aims to demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion with the STEP Prototype Power plant. One of the key technological and engineering challenges in fusion power plants is mana ...

The JET hybrid scenario has been developed from low plasma current carbon wall discharges to the record-breaking Deuterium-Tritium plasmas obtained in 2021 with the ITER-like Be/W wall. The development started in pure Deuterium with refinement of the plasm ...

The design point that had been chosen for EU DEMO in 2016 is reviewed here and a modification is proposed with a lower aspect ratio. Previously the same aspect ratio, A, was chosen for EU DEMO as in major tokamak experiments including ITER (A = 3.1), and, ...

Objective. Microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) is an alternative emerging radiotherapy treatment modality which has demonstrated effective radioresistant tumour control while sparing surrounding healthy tissue in preclinical trials. This apparent selectivity ...

The Fast Discharge Units (FDUs) of the Superconducting (SC) Toroidal Field (TF) coils in the European demonstration fusion power plant DEMO warrant the machine integrity over its full lifetime against severe failure events, such as SC coil quenches or any ...

JET experiments using the fuel mixture envisaged for fusion power plants, deuterium and tritium (D-T), provide a unique opportunity to validate existing D-T fusion power prediction capabilities in support of future device design and operation preparation. ...

We investigate a layer of cobalt tetrapyridyl porphyrins (CoTPyPs) self-assembled on an almost freestanding graphene (GR) sheet supported by Ir(111) with complementary experimental techniques and density functional theory (DFT) ab initio simulations. Besid ...

ML-based edge devices may face memory and computational errors that affect applications' reliability and performance. These errors can be the result of particular working conditions (e.g., radiation areas in physical experiments or avionics) or could be th ...
