We analyze rest-frame ultraviolet to optical spectra of three z similar or equal to 7.47-7.75 galaxies whose Ly alpha emission lines were previously detected with Keck/MOSFIRE observations, using the JWST/NIRSpec observations from the Cosmic Evolution Earl ...

Low-level light detection with high spatial and timing accuracy is a growing area of interest by virtue of applications such as light detection and ranging (LiDAR), biomedical imaging, time-resolved Raman spectroscopy, and quantum applications. Single-phot ...

Tidal dwarf galaxies (TDGs) are low-mass objects that form within tidal and/or collisional debris ejected from more massive interacting galaxies. We use CO(1-0) observations from Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array and integral-field spectroscopy ...

Thermonanophotonics, that is the study of photothermal effects in optical nanoantennas, has recently attracted growing interest. In particular, going beyond thermoplasmonic designs, thermo-optical modulation of dielectric nanoantennas opens new opportuniti ...

Solving native structures of such large molecules, like biomolecules, is often challenging, particularly due to the potentially infinite number of non-covalent interactions with water. In this thesis, we report the use of cold ion gas-phase action spectros ...

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) was designed to conduct a survey covering 14,000 deg(2) over 5 yr to constrain the cosmic expansion history through precise measurements of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO). The scientific program for DESI ...

This work focusses on the pilot run of a simulation campaign aimed at investigating the spectroscopic capabilities of the Euclid NearInfrared Spectrometer and Photometer (NISP), in terms of continuum and emission line detection in the context of galaxy evo ...

Stellar candidates in the Ursa Minor (UMi) dwarf galaxy have been found using a new Bayesian algorithm applied to Gaia EDR3 data. Five of these targets are located in the extreme outskirts of UMi, from similar to 5 to 12 elliptical half-light radii (r h), ...

Numerical simulations of dwarf galaxies have so far failed to reproduce the observed metallicity-luminosity relation, down to the regime of ultra-faint dwarfs (UFDs). We address this issue by exploring how the first generations of metal-free stars (Pop III ...

The presence of chemisorbed oxygen on the Cu(111) surface is known to strongly reduce the activation barrier for water dissociation as compared to bare Cu(111). Here, we present direct experimental evidence for the hydrogen abstraction mechanism responsibl ...

Line ratio diagnostics provide valuable clues as to the source of ionizing radiation in galaxies with intense black hole accretion and starbursting events, such as local Seyfert galaxies or galaxies at the peak of their star formation history. We aim to pr ...

In the theory of the bottom-up assembly of cosmic structures, one of the main challenges is to connect the smallest, most inconspicuous galaxies we observe today to the building blocks of more massive galaxies such as our own, the Milky Way. Do these so-ca ...

The Euclid Space Telescope will provide deep imaging at optical and near-infrared wavelengths, along with slitless near-infrared spectroscopy, across similar to 15 000deg(2) of the sky. Euclid is expected to detect similar to 12 billion astronomical source ...

We present a cost-effective electro-optic frequency comb generation and equalization method using a single phase modulator inserted in a Sagnac interferometer layout. The equalization relies on the interference of comb lines generated in both clockwise and ...

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have shown an incredible increase in efficiency, reaching as high as 25.7%, which now competes with traditional photovoltaic technologies. Herein, we excluded CsX and RbX (X = I–, Br–, Cl–), the most commonly used cations to ...

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Survey has obtained a set of spectroscopic measurements of galaxies to validate the final survey design and target selections. To assist in these tasks, we visually inspect DESI spectra of approximately 2500 ...

In the current Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey, emission line galaxies (ELGs) and luminous red galaxies (LRGs) are essential for mapping the dark matter distribution at < N(M)>. We measure the auto and cross correlation functions of ELGs ...

We present a new spectroscopic study of 175 stars in the vicinity of the dwarf galaxy Hercules (d similar to 132 kpc) with data from the Anglo-Australian Telescope and its AAOmega spectrograph together with the Two Degree Field multi-object system to solve ...

We investigate the role of dense environments in suppressing star formation by studying log(10)(M- * / M-?) > 9 . 7 star-forming galaxies in nine clusters from the Local Cluster Survey (0.0137 < z < 0.0433) and a large comparison field sample drawn from th ...

Dark matter clusters on all scales, and it is therefore expected that even substructure should host its own substructure. Using the Extragalactic Distance Database, we searched for dwarf-galaxy satellites of dwarf galaxies, that is, satellite-of-satellite ...
