We leverage the crucial hyperelastic properties of a multifunctional structured surface to optimize the reconfigurability of the electromagnetic transmission under large nonlinear mechanical deformations. This multiphysics, multifunctional, hyperelastic st ...

A simulation model and an experimental characterization of energy saving glazing transparent to mobile communication frequency up to 40 GHz is presented. A previous study showed that laser structured energy efficient windows with a frequency selective surf ...

Recently, investigation of metasurfaces has been extended to wave control through exploiting nonlinearity. Among all of the ways to achieve tunable metasurfaces with multiplexed performances, nonlinearity is one of the promising choices. Although several p ...

The frequency dependence of seismic properties of fully saturated rocks can be related to wave-induced fluid flows at different scales. The elastic dispersion and attenuation of four fluid-saturated carbonate rocks, with different microstructures, have bee ...

We propose a novel approach for smoothing on surfaces. More precisely, we aim at estimating functions lying on a surface, starting from noisy and discrete measurements. The surface is represented by NURBS, which are geometrical representations commonly use ...

The paper presents the results of the evaluation of the seismic safety of the Ancien Hôpital de Sion, an important Swiss architectural heritage building, sited in the Canton of Valais, the region with the highest seismic hazard in Switzerland. Three-dimens ...

We report the fabrication, modeling and characterization of novel microwave tunable capacitors based on the metal-insulator transition (MIT) of Vanadium Dioxide (VO2) as a future replacement solution for microelectromechanical capacitive switches. We prese ...

We have studied a binary Au-Cu single crystal by mechanical spectroscopy. Upon very slow cooling from high temperatures, additional relaxation peaks arise at lower frequencies in isothermal spectra after the disappearing of the Zener peak below 665 K due t ...

In this work, various aspects concerning the numerical simulation of a sailing boat are investigated. The attention is focused on simulation of the free-surface, the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) between wind and sails, and the dynamics of the whole bo ...

Numerical simulation in aluminum production envolves many different topics, this paper is dedicated to some aspects of two of them. In the first part, a numerical approach for the computation of the motion of the fluids in an electrolitic cell is presented ...

In this thesis, we focus on standard classes of problems in numerical optimization: unconstrained nonlinear optimization as well as systems of nonlinear equations. More precisely, we consider two types of unconstrained nonlinear optimization problems. On t ...

In this paper, we present a review of theoretical methods to compute lightning induced currents and voltages on buried cables. The evaluation of such induced disturbances requires the calculation of the electric field produced by lightning along the cable ...

A numerical method for the simulation of the motion of a glacier in two and three dimensions is presented. Glacier ice is treated as an incompressible viscous fluid. The model equations are based on mass, momentum, energy conservation and a specific rheolo ...
