Understanding the formation of galaxies and studying the expansion of the Universe, need the spectral characterization of faint astronomical objects such as stars or galaxies. From these spectra, the distance, the velocity and the chemical composition of t ...

In most of applications, power converters are controlled to allow their output current/voltage to follow the required reference values. For DC/DC and DC/AC converters, the control must take into account their input voltage, which must be rejected. In such ...

Making transportation systems more energy efficient is one of the key challenge in this century. This paper presents a solution for increasing the efficiency of an electrical scooter by adding a supercapacitive energy storage in parallel to the original ba ...

Ultracapacitors, also called electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLC) or supercapacitors, may improve the performance of conventional electrolytic capacitors in terms of specific energy, or improve the performance of rechargeable batteries in terms o ...

In order to comply with sustainable development policy, the minimum that buildings should achieve are a healthy, comfortable and energy-efficient environment. Criteria for individually assessing each of the many criteria are known: the occupant's perceived ...

In previous work, it has been shown how to solve atomic broadcast by reduction to consensus on messages. While this solution is theoretically correct, it has its limitations in practice, since executing consensus on large messages can quickly saturate the ...

The last decades have seen the most important improvements of the safety on the road. But most of the accidents are still coming from the driver when a source of danger is not noticed or when the reaction is not correct during an unusual situation. Two way ...

This work aims at a better understanding of transport mechanisms which take place in organic semiconductors such as pentacene. More accurately, we believe that the electronic polarization plays a leading part, which we try to identify in the particular cas ...

The storage system in this paper is made of supercapacitors. The main goal is to ensure an efficient energy management in a series hybrid vehicle, even if braking resistors are still needed. Design considerations are discussed. In particular the influence ...

The subthreshold membrane voltage of a neuron in active cortical tissue is a fluctuating quantity with a distribution that reflects the firing statistics of the presynaptic population. It was recently found that conductance-based synaptic drive can lead to ...

This paper presents a continuous voltage and frequency scaling approach achieving lower transition (both energy and time) overheads implied by changing voltage levels, at a very low power dissipation and silicon area cost for multi-processor systems with i ...

The region-by-region polarization switching in ferroelectric Pb(Zr,Ti)O-3 thin films sandwiched between Pt electrodes has been directly observed using piezoelectric scanning probe microscopy. A resolution improved by one order-of-magnitude compared to the ...

The electrochem. promotion of the complete catalytic oxidn. of ethylene and toluene on RuO2Catalyst films deposited on Y2O3-stabilized-ZrO2 (YSZ) was studied at temps. 400 to 500 Deg. Anodic polarization (1.5 V), i.e. O2- supply from the YSZ support to the ...

We consider a simple network, where a source and destination node are connected with a line of erasure channels. It is well known that in order to achieve the min-cut capacity, the intermediate nodes are required to process the information. We propose codi ...

Varied sensory systems use noise in order to enhance detection of weak signals. It has been conjectured in the literature that this effect, known as stochastic resonance, may take place in central cognitive processes such as memory retrieval of arithmetica ...

We present the results of an evaluation study in the framework of user interfaces for teleoperation of vehicles. We developed a virtual cockpit with haptic feedback provided by a Haptic Workstation™. Four alternative teleoperation interfaces were implement ...

A new approach combining electrostatic and covalent bonds was established for the formation of resistant capsules with long-term stability under physiol. conditions. Three kinds of interactions were generated in the same membrane: (1) electrostatic bonds b ...
