We present the results of a 3-yr long, medium-resolution spectroscopic campaign aimed at identifying very metal -poor stars from candidates selected with the CaHK, metallicitysensitive Pristine survey. The catalogue consists of a total of 1007 stars, and i ...

The current paradigm for the co-evolution of galaxies and their supermassive black holes postulates that dust-obscured active galactic nuclei (AGNs) represent a transitional phase towards a more luminous and unobscured state. However, our understanding of ...

We describe the first public data release of the Dark Energy Survey, DES DR1, consisting of reduced single-epoch images, co-added images, co-added source catalogs, and associated products and services assembled over the first 3 yr of DES science operations ...

Context. Observations of the hot gas in distant clusters of galaxies, though challenging, are key to understanding the role of intense galaxy activity, supermassive black hole feedback, and chemical enrichment in the process of massive halo assembly.|Aims. ...

We present a homogeneous set of accurate atmospheric parameters for a complete sample of very and extremely metal-poor stars in the dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) Sculptor, Ursa Minor, Sextans, Fornax, Botes I, Ursa Major II, and Leo IV. We also deliver ...

We update the publicly available weak lensing shear measurement algorithm pyRRG for the JWST, and apply it to UNCOVER DR1 imaging of galaxy cluster Abell 2744. At short wavelengths (

Context. The system of galaxies around NGC 4490 was recently highlighted to display a flattened, kinematically correlated structure reminiscent of planes of satellite galaxies around other hosts. Aims. Since known satellite planes are in tension with expec ...

Extremely metal-poor (EMP) stars are old objects formed in the first Gyr of the Universe. They are rare and, to select them the most successful strategy has been to build on large and low-resolution spectroscopic surveys. The combination of narrow- and bro ...

To obtain an accurate cosmological inference from upcoming weak lensing surveys such as the one conducted by Euclid, the shear measurement requires calibration using galaxy image simulations. As it typically requires millions of simulated galaxy images and ...

We present two wide-field catalogues of photometrically selected emission line galaxies (ELGs) at z approximate to 0.8 covering about 2800 deg(2)over the south galactic cap. The catalogues were obtained using a Fisher discriminant technique described in a ...

We present the Pristine survey, a new narrow-band photometric survey focused on the metallicity-sensitive Ca H&K lines and conducted in the Northern hemisphere with the wide-field imager MegaCam on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. This paper reviews our ...

Context. Gaia DR3 has offered the scientific community a remarkable dataset of approximately one million spectra acquired with the radial velocity spectrometer (RVS) in the calcium II triplet region, which is well suited to identify very metal-poor (VMP) s ...

The distribution of mass in galaxy-scale strong gravitational lenses is often modelled as an elliptical power-law plus 'external shear', which notionally accounts for neighbouring galaxies and cosmic shear along our line of sight. A small amount of externa ...

The Time-Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS) is an SDSS-IV eBOSS subproject primarily aimed at obtaining identification spectra of similar to 220,000 optically variable objects systematically selected from SDSS/Pan-STARRS1 multi-epoch imaging. We present a ...

This work focusses on the pilot run of a simulation campaign aimed at investigating the spectroscopic capabilities of the Euclid NearInfrared Spectrometer and Photometer (NISP), in terms of continuum and emission line detection in the context of galaxy evo ...

Large-scale bars can fuel galaxy centers with molecular gas, often leading to the development of dense ringlike structures where intense star formation occurs, forming a very different environment compared to galactic disks. We pair similar to 0 3'' (30 pc ...

We present [C/Fe] and [N/Fe] abundance ratios and CH(lambda 4300) and S(lambda 3883) index measurements for 94 red giant branch (RGB) stars in the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy from VLT/VIMOS MOS observations at a resolving power R = 1150 at 4020 A. Thi ...

The tip of the red giant branch provides a luminous standard candle for calibrating distance ladders that reach Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) hosts. However, recent work reveals that tip measurements vary at the similar to 0.1 mag level for different stellar p ...

Stray light contamination reduces considerably the precision of photometric of faint stars for low altitude space-borne observatories. When measuring faint objects, the necessity of coping with stray light contamination arises in order to avoid systematic ...

Context. Asteroseismology experienced a breakthrough in the last two decades thanks to the so-called photometry revolution with space-based missions such as CoRoT, Kepler, and TESS. Because asteroseismic modelling will be part of the pipeline of the future ...
