Human skin deformation from cross-sections

Résumé

A new approach for human skin modeling and deformation based on cross-sectional methods is presented. Internally, the authors use dynamic trimmed parametric patches for describing the smooth deformation of skin pieces; then they polygonalize parametric patches for final body skin synthesis and rendering. Simple and intuitive, their method combines the advantages of both parametric and polygonal representations. Produces very realistic body deformations, and allows the display of surface models at several levels of detail

Freeform surface modelling

Freeform surface modelling is a technique for engineering freeform surfaces with a CAD or CAID system. The technology has encompassed two main fields. Either creating aesthetic surfaces (class A surfaces) that also perform a function; for example, car bodies and consumer product outer forms, or technical surfaces for components such as gas turbine blades and other fluid dynamic engineering components. CAD software packages use two basic methods for the creation of surfaces.

Polygonal modeling

In 3D computer graphics, polygonal modeling is an approach for modeling objects by representing or approximating their surfaces using polygon meshes. Polygonal modeling is well suited to scanline rendering and is therefore the method of choice for real-time computer graphics. Alternate methods of representing 3D objects include NURBS surfaces, subdivision surfaces, and equation-based (implicit surface) representations used in ray tracers. The basic object used in mesh modeling is a vertex, a point in three-dimensional space.

Mesh (objet)

Un en ou maillage est un objet tridimensionnel constitué de sommets, d'arêtes et de faces organisés en polygones sous forme de fil de fer dans une infographie tridimensionnelle. Les faces se composent généralement de triangles, de quadrilatères ou d'autres polygones convexes simples, car cela simplifie le rendu. Les faces peuvent être combinées pour former des polygones concaves plus complexes, ou des polygones avec des trous. L'étude des en fait partie importante de l'infographie tridimensionnelle.
