As the world shift towards sustainable energy solutions, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) using non-carbon fuels like ammonia and hydrogen emerge as promising pathways to produce clean energy and enhance conversion efficiency. However, current implementation ...

CO2 conversion plays a vital role in addressing climate change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a circular carbon economy. Rather than releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, carbon dioxide recycling technologies allows transformatio ...

Fuel cells are considered one of the most efficient and environmental-friendly technologies available for converting chemical energy into electricity and heat, and considered a key technology to close the hydrogen cycle. In particular, combined heat and po ...

Clean energy is highly needed at this time when the energy requirements are rapidly increasing. The observed increasing energy requirement are largely due to continued industrialization and global population explosion. The current means of energy source is ...

Reversible solid oxide cells (rSOC) can convert excess electricity to valuable fuels in electrolysis cell mode (SOEC) and reverse the reaction in fuel cell mode (SOFC). In this work, a five - cell rSOC short stack, integrating fuel electrode (Ni-YSZ) suppo ...

The recent targets by different countries to stop the sales or registrations of internal combustion engines (ICE) have led to the further development of battery and fuel cell technologies to provide power for different applications. The main aim of this st ...

Achieving an efficient and stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an acidic or neutral medium is of paramount importance for hydrogen production via proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEM-WE). Supported iridium-based nanoparticles (NPs) are th ...

Membrane-less electrolyzers utilize fluidic forces instead of solid barriers for the separation of electrolysis gas products. These electrolyzers have low ionic resistance, a simple design, and the ability to work with electrolytes at different pH values. ...

Exploring highly efficient electrocatalysts for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance for addressing energy and environmental crises. Vacancy engineering has been regarded as a promising ...

As organic semiconductors attract increasing attention to application in the fields of bioelectronics and artificial photosynthesis, understanding the factors that determine their robust operation in direct contact with aqueous electrolytes becomes a criti ...

Solid-oxide electrolyzer based power-to-methane is promising for large-scale energy storage as well as biogas upgrading by efficiently converting intermittent renewable power and CO2 (e.g., in biogas) into synthetic methane. Either air or pure oxygen can b ...

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) are highly efficient electrochemical conversion devices for the production of electricity that combine fuel flexibility with low emissions of pollutants. The reverse operation in electrolysis mode (SOEC) allows storing electri ...

This work investigates the effect of current density on the hydrogen gas bubble formation during electrolysis on a platinum electrode. Local detection of bubble evolution was performed electrochemically by using a hydrogen-collecting microelectrode placed ...

Nowadays, the efficient, stable, and scalable conversion of solar energy into chemical fuels represents a great scientific, economic, and ethical challenge. Amongst the available candidate technologies, photoelectrochemical water splitting potentially has ...

The degradation of the Ni-YSZ electrode was investigated after SOFC or SOEC operation for up to 4,700 h and 10,700 h, respectively. 3-D FIB-SEM serial sectioning combined with 3-D EDS elemental mapping allowed the measurement of structural, material and el ...

Monolithic solar water splitting devices consist of photovoltaic materials integrated with electrocatalysts and produce solar hydrogen by water splitting upon solar illumination in one device. Upscaling of monolithic solar water splitting devices is obstru ...

Chemical process optimization problems often have multiple and conflicting objectives, such as capital cost, operating cost, production cost, profit, energy consumption and environmental impact. There are several conversion technologies that can convert Sy ...

Although sunlight-driven water splitting is a promising route to sustainable hydrogen fuel production, widespread implementation is hampered by the expense of the necessary photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical apparatus. Here, we describe a highly efficie ...
