Digital micro-mirror devices (DMDs) have been deployed in many optical applications. As compared to spatial light modulators (SLMs), they are characterized by their much faster refresh rates (full-frame refresh rates up to 32 kHz for binary patterns) compa ...

This paper presents a 32 Gb/s 16-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-16) source-series-terminated transmitter (TX) and a receiver (RX) analog front-end (AFE) in 28 nm FDSOI. The 8-way time-interleaved successive-approximation register (SAR) analog-to-dig ...

The ever-growing global internet traffic has increased demand for higher speed data transmission. As the bandwidth requirements of wireline links increase, extensive digital equalization techniques are required to compensate for the high-frequency channel ...

Ambitious policies are needed from every country to drastically curtail the anthropogenic emission of greenhouse gases responsible for the on-going modification of the earth's climate. A quick transition towards a society fully based on renewable materials ...

A tunable and reconfigurable optical aggregation system is experimentally demonstrated. Optical Nyquist pulses are generated on multiple channels using a microresonator-based Kerr optical frequency comb and insertion of uniform lines by an intensity modula ...

The duty-cycle control is a popular option for current limiting in LLC resonant converters. Such current limiting is required to protect the converter either during the start-up or during an overload. Although this method proved to be effective, the switch ...

In this work, we demonstrate a state-of-the-art high step-up/down dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter designed with GaN transistors, to achieve a high efficiency and large power-density. A quasi-planar matrix transformer with high step-up/down ratio is demo ...

Modern power systems are at risk of largely reducing the inertia of generation assets and prone to experience extreme dynamics. The consequence is that, during electromechanical transients triggered by large contingencies, transmission of electrical power ...

Continuous-wave-driven Kerr nonlinear microresonators give rise to self-organization in terms of dissipative Kerr solitons, which constitute optical frequency combs that can be used to generate low-noise microwave signals. Here, by applying either amplitud ...

Efficient DC-DC power-conversion with wide-span voltage-regulation is crucial to a sustainable and robust power electronics system. Dual-active-bridge (DAB) offers straight-forward regulation and its transformer enables voltage step-up/down required for ma ...

In vivo (13) C MRS at high field benefits from an improved SNR and spectral resolution especially when using surface coils in combination with adiabatic pulses, such as the adiabatic half-passage (AHP) pulse for (13) C excitation. However, the excitation p ...

The exponential growth of Internet traffic and related demands for higher communication speed pushes processor-to-processor and processor-to-memory interconnects to provide further higher data-rate. Often time, processor-to-memory interconnectsâ speed is ...

The WiseSkin project aims to provide a non-invasive solution for restoration of a natural sense of touch to persons using prosthetic limbs. By embedding sensor nodes into the silicone coating of the prosthesis, which acts as a sensory skin, WiseSkin target ...

Synchrophasor estimation is typically performed by means of spectral analysis based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). Traditional DFT approaches, though, suffer from several uncertainty contributions due to the stationarity assumption, spectral leak ...

We present a single synchrophasor estimation (SE) algorithm that is simultaneously compliant with both P and M phasor measurement unit (PMU) performance classes. The method, called iterative-interpolated discrete Fourier transform (i-IpDFT), iteratively es ...

Controlling the phase of an electromagnetic field using plasmonic nanostructures provides a versatile way to manipulate light at the nanoscale. Broadband phase modulation has been demonstrated using inhomogeneous metasurfaces with different geometries; how ...

A novel photonic integrated circuit architecture for implementing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing by means of photonic generation of phase-correlated sub-carriers is proposed. The circuit can also be used for implementing complex modulation, fre ...

The Interpolated Discrete Fourier Transform (IpDFT) represents the current state-of-the-art about DFT-based synchrophasor estimation (SE) algorithms for P-class Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). However, the IpDFT is not robust against the interference prod ...

Analysis of fringe patterns for the accurate estimation of phase and phase derivatives is of crucial importance in optical interferometry as these quantities provide important information on the physical parameters under study. A wide range of applications ...

One of the key challenges in the area of signal processing on graphs is to design dictionaries and transform methods to identify and exploit structure in signals on weighted graphs. To do so, we need to account for the intrinsic geometric structure of the ...
