Mixed ion perovskite solar cells (PSC) are manufactured with a metal-free hole contact based on press-transferred single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) film infiltrated with 2,2,7,-7-tetrakis(N, N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,90-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD ...

Low-emissive Transparent Conductive Oxide (TCO) coatings, such as Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) films, can be used to reduce radiative losses that affect Hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PV-T) devices. This work shows the optical properties of ITO deposited by magnet ...

We describe the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV), a project encompassing three major spectroscopic programs. The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) is observing hundreds of thousands of Milky Way stars at high resoluti ...

Isoprene is a key trace component of the atmosphere emitted by vegetation and other organisms. It is highly reactive and can impact atmospheric composition and climate by affecting the greenhouse gases ozone and methane and secondary organic aerosol format ...

Boron doped graphene oxide (B-GO) is a highly effective adsorbent for ammonia due to the high density of strong Lewis acid sites arising from the boron. GO was doped by various amounts of boron described as xB-GO (x= 1.0, 3.0, and 5.0). B-GO was successful ...

This thesis explores the applications of graphene for terahertz and far infrared optical components and antennas, with particular emphasis on tunable and non-reciprocal devices. Both terahertz technologies and graphene are emerging fields which hold many p ...

Propionitrile electrolyte solutions mixed with sulfolane or with 1-ethyl 3-methyl imidazolium tetracyanoborate (ionic liquid) are optimized for Co(bpy)(3)(3+)/Co(bpy)(3)(2+)-tmediated DSCs working at low illumination intensity. Highly-active cathode cataly ...

Graphene has some drawbacks, like the absence of an electronic band gap which leads to only small gate switching ratios, and its fast carrier recombination that limits its use in optoelectronics. In order to overcome these issues, the aim of this thesis wa ...

Retrieving the water-leaving reflectance from airborne hyperspectral data implies to deal with three steps. Firstly, the radiance recorded by an airborne sensor comes from several sources: the real radiance of the object, the atmospheric scattering, sky an ...

The recently discovered unique optoelectronic properties and chemical robustness of mono- or few-layer two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) such as MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2 have opened new possibilities for solar en ...

The invention relates to titanium oxide aerogels, in particular to titanium oxide binary or ternary (e.g. titanium oxide-carbon) aerogel monoliths possessing ordered meso- and macroporosity. The porous scaffold can be made with or without addition of binde ...

We present a compact and multi-resonant aperture system supporting large local electromagnetic fields, which is highly advantageous for applications demanding high signal-to-noise ratio. The system is composed of subwavelength H-shaped apertures with exten ...

The gate-controllable complex conductivity of graphene offers unprecedented opportunities for reconfigurable plasmonics at terahertz and mid-infrared frequencies. However, the requirement of a gating electrode close to graphene and the single 'control knob ...

Graphene plasmonic nanostructures enable subwavelength confinement of electromagnetic energy from the mid-infrared down to the terahertz frequencies. By exploiting the spectrally varying light scattering phase at the vicinity of the resonant frequency of t ...

Ongoing and near-future imaging-based dark energy experiments are critically dependent upon photometric redshifts (a.k.a. photo-z's): i.e., estimates of the redshifts of objects based only on flux information obtained through broad filters. Higher-quality, ...

Liquids confined down to the atomic scale can show radically new properties. However, only indirect and ensemble measurements operate in such extreme confinement, calling for novel optical approaches that enable direct imaging at the molecular level. Here ...

This thesis explores the application of recent advances in integrated photonics to the field of light detection and ranging (LiDAR). The progress in photonic integration allows for unprecedented levels of light manipulation on micrometer scales through the ...

We present photometry and derived redshifts from up to eleven bandpasses for 9927 galaxies in the Hubble Ultra Deep field (UDF), covering an observed wavelength range from the near-ultraviolet (NUV) to the near-infrared (NIR) with Hubble Space Telescope ob ...

High-index dielectric subwavelength structures and metasurfaces are capable of enhancing light-matter interaction by orders of magnitude via geometry-dependent optical resonances. This enhancement, however, comes with a fundamental limitation of a narrow s ...

The goal of this thesis is the combination of the high spatial resolution of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) with the high temporal resolution of optical spectroscopy, by monitoring the light emitted from the tunnel junction. Two complementary techniqu ...
