Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is an Additive Manufacturing (AM) process consolidating parts layer by layer, from a metallic powder bed. It allows no limitation in terms of geometry and is therefore of particular interest to various industries. Metallic LP ...

Whereas pulse-echo ultrasound imaging relied on focused acoustic waves since its inception, the last two decades have seen the development of techniques based on unfocused waves, including ultrafast ultrasound imaging. In large part due to the emergence of ...

A key challenge across many disciplines is to extract meaningful information from data which is often obscured by noise. These datasets are typically represented as large matrices. Given the current trend of ever-increasing data volumes, with datasets grow ...

Small-angle X-ray tensor tomography and the related wide-angle X-ray tensor tomography are X-ray imaging techniques that tomographically reconstruct the anisotropic scattering density of extended samples. In previous studies, these methods have been used t ...

Semantic segmentation datasets often exhibit two types of imbalance: \textit{class imbalance}, where some classes appear more frequently than others and \textit{size imbalance}, where some objects occupy more pixels than others. This causes traditional eva ...

From the nineteenth-century panorama to the emergence of the digital panoramic format in the 's, the visualization of large images frequently relies on panoramic viewing strategies. Originally rendered in the form of epic painted canvases, these strategies ...

The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) AI learning-based image coding system is an ongoing joint standardization effort between International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and International Te ...

The remarkable ability of deep learning (DL) models to approximate high-dimensional functions from samples has sparked a revolution across numerous scientific and industrial domains that cannot be overemphasized. In sensitive applications, the good perform ...

International benchmarking competitions have become fundamental for the comparative performance assessment of image analysis methods. However, little attention has been given to investigating what can be learnt from these competitions. Do they really gener ...

The past decades have witnessed rapid growth in imaging as a major form of communication between individuals. Due to recent advances in capture, storage, delivery and display technologies, consumers demand improved perceptual quality while requiring reduce ...

In light of the challenges posed by climate change and the goals of the Paris Agreement, electricity generation is shifting to a more renewable and decentralized pattern, while the operation of systems like buildings is increasingly electrified. This calls ...

In this study, we harness the information-theoretic Privacy Funnel (PF) model to develop a method for privacy-preserving representation learning using an end-to-end training framework. We rigorously address the trade-off between obfuscation and utility. Bo ...

Open international challenges are becoming the de facto standard for assessing computer vision and image analysis algorithms. In recent years, new methods have extended the reach of pulmonary airway segmentation that is closer to the limit of image resolut ...

Deploying compute-intensive deep neural networks (DNNs) on resource-constrained end devices has become a prominent trend, enabling localized intelligence. However, efficiently deploying these DNNs at scale poses challenges. To address this, extensive resea ...

Low-level light detection with high spatial and timing accuracy is a growing area of interest by virtue of applications such as light detection and ranging (LiDAR), biomedical imaging, time-resolved Raman spectroscopy, and quantum applications. Single-phot ...

This paper proposes a novel method to improve georeferencing of airborne laser scanning by improved trajectory estimation using Vehicle Dynamic Model. In Vehicle Dynamic Model (VDM), the relationship between the dynamics of the platform and control inputs ...

To obtain a more complete understanding of material microstructure at the nanoscale and to gain profound insights into their properties, there is a growing need for more efficient and precise methods that can streamline the process of 3D imaging using a tr ...

Pulmonary nodules and masses are crucial imaging features in lung cancer screening that require careful management in clinical diagnosis. Despite the success of deep learning-based medical image segmentation, the robust performance on various sizes of lesi ...
