We introduce and derive the Fourier -enhanced 3D electrostatic field solver of the gyrokinetic full -f PIC code PICLS. The solver makes use of a Fourier representation in one periodic direction of the domain to make the solving of the system easily paralle ...

. High-resolution simulations of particle-based kinetic plasma models typically require a high number of particles and thus often become computationally intractable. This is exacerbated in multi-query simulations, where the problem depends on a set of para ...

We present an efficient method to compute diffusion coefficients of multiparticle systems with strong interactions directly from the geometry and topology of the potential energy field of the migrating particles. The approach is tested on Li-ion diffusion ...

A device for fragmenting ions by collision induced dissociation, the device intended to be used together with a planar ion mobility apparatus, the device including a first conductive grid having a plurality of first openings, the first conductive grid conf ...

Gyrotrons are a class of high-power vacuum-electronics microwave sources, which are envisioned to play an important role in the domain of magnetically confined fusion plasmas. Indeed, only gyrotrons are capable of producing continuous electromagnetic waves ...

High-entropy materials are a new class of materials that have lately been developed and applied to a variety of potential fields. Here we present that electrochemical activation facilitates the application of high-entropy molybdates (HEMo) as oxygen evolut ...

We construct divergence-free Sobolev vector fields in C([0,1];W-1,W-r(T-d;Rd)) with r < d and d\geq 2 which simultaneously admit any finite number of distinct positive solutions to the continuity equation. These vector fields are then shown to have at leas ...

A Phase-contrast imaging (PCI) diagnostic provides measurements of line-integrated electron density fluctuations. Localisation along the laser beam path can be achieved with a spatial filter that selects the wave-vector directions of the fluctuations contr ...

This work proposes an adaptive structure-preserving model order reduction method for finite-dimensional parametrized Hamiltonian systems modeling non-dissipative phenomena. To overcome the slowly decaying Kolmogorov width typical of transport problems, the ...

When applying isogeometric analysis to engineering problems, one often deals with multi-patch spline spaces that have incompatible discretisations, e.g. in the case of moving objects. In such cases mortaring has been shown to be advantageous. This contribu ...

A novel surrogate model based on the Grassmannian diffusion maps (GDMaps) and utilizing geometric harmonics (GH) is developed for predicting the response of complex physical phenomena. The method utilizes GDMaps to obtain a low-dimensional representation o ...

In this thesis, we propose model order reduction techniques for high-dimensional PDEs that preserve structures of the original problems and develop a closure modeling framework leveraging the Mori-Zwanzig formalism and recurrent neural networks. Since high ...

We derive a dynamical field theory for self-propelled particles subjected to generic torques and forces by explicitly coarse-graining their microscopic dynamics, described by a many-body Fokker-Planck equation. The model includes both intrinsic torques ind ...

Although conceptually simple, the air-water interface displays rich behavior and is subject to intense experimental and theoretical investigations. Different definitions of the electrostatic surface potential as well as different calculation methods, each ...

We present the concept and detailed design of a Smart Slit Assembly for next generation spectrometers, and we experimentally demonstrate operation of an individual 221 mu m x 111 mu m smart slit channel employing a MEMS actuated shutter to continuously mod ...

Thermally driven flows in fractures play a key role in enhancing the heat transfer and fluid mixing across the Earth’s lithosphere. Yet the energy pathways in such confined environments have not been characterised. Building on Letelier et al. (J. Fluid Mec ...

The stepped-pressure equilibrium code (SPEC) (Hudson et al 2012 Phys. Plasmas 19, 112 502) is extended to enable free-boundary multi-region relaxed magnetohydrodynamic (MRxMHD) equilibrium calculations. The vacuum field surrounding the plasma inside an arb ...

Fluid simulations of the boundary of fusion plasmas predict the formation of an electric potential well in the vicinity of the X-point in detached divertor conditions with Bt in the unfavorable direction for H-mode access. This potential well arises when t ...

Recent TCV experiments confirm the predicted formation of an electric potential well, below the magnetic X-point, in configurations with unfavorable

B_t

The numerical solution of the stepped pressure equilibrium (Hudson et al 2012 Phys. Plasmas 19 112502) requires a fast and robust solver to obtain the Beltrami field in three-dimensional geometry such as stellarators. The spectral method implemented in the ...
