To explore the governing mechanism underlying the tensile fatigue behavior of Ultra-high Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (UHPFRC), this study tested eight specimens using four advanced non-destructive measurement techniques. First, mag ...

In geological reservoirs, pore fluid chemistry can affect rock strength by inducing mineral dissolution, precipitation, and alteration, among other processes. Increasing pressure and temperature can shift deformation from localized to ductile, decreasing p ...

The seismic damage of masonry walls is reflected in cracks that tend to start at the head and bed joints and subsequently propagates through the masonry units. In this regard, the horizontal-to-vertical compressive strength ratio of bricks might have the a ...

The building industry is increasingly adopting bio-based materials to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly alternatives. Composites, known for their diverse properties and adaptable geometries, are gaining popularity as a versatile choice f ...

WC-Co cemented carbides are widely used in the cutting tool industry due to their mechanical properties. These composite materials indeed combines hardness and toughness, two properties that are generally contradictory. WC-Co is composed of hard WC grains ...

Skin-like bioelectronics offer a transformative technological frontier, catering to continuous and real-time yet highly imperceptible and socially discreet digital healthcare. The key technological breakthrough enabling these innovations stems from advance ...

The influence of various heat treatments on the corrosion behavior of a novel iron-based shape memory alloy (Fe-SMA), Fe-17Mn-6Si-10Cr-4Ni-1(V,C), used as prestressing elements in civil engineering was examined through electrochemical corrosion methods. SM ...

The evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of AISI 904L stainless steel subjected to high-pressure torsion (HPT) and post-deformation annealing was investigated. A nanocrystalline microstructure with an average grain size of 48 nm was obtain ...

Water is ubiquitous within the pore space of rocks and has been shown to affect their physical and mechanical behaviour. Indeed, water can act on the rock strength via mechanical (i.e., reducing the effective stresses) or chemical effects (e.g., mineral di ...

In this thesis, we conduct a comprehensive investigation into structural instabilities of both elastic and magneto-elastic beams and shells, resulting in a creative proposal to design a programmable braille reader. Methodologically, we combine numerical si ...

Codes of practice can be overly conservative, particularly for the shear resistance of reinforced concrete beams with shear reinforcement when large loads act close to supports. This thesis addresses the topic by proposing a refined design approach based o ...

Fiber-polymer composites consist of a polymer matrix and reinforcing fibers made of various materials. These composites exhibit exceptional properties, such as a high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance, which has led to their incre ...

Biominerals are used by natural organisms for example as structural supports and optical sensors. They are produced from a limited number of elements and under ambient conditions. Nevertheless, they often possess excellent mechanical properties and sometim ...

Most codes of practice adopt a semi probabilistic design approach for the dimensioning and assessment of structures. Accordingly, structural safety is ensured by performing limit state verifications using design values determined with adequately calibrated ...

Small scale (1:30-1:40) Reinforced Concrete is useful for centrifuge testing. However, manufacturing the reinforcing cages by hand at this scale is practically difficult. This paper suggests that small scale reinforcement can be manufactured using a metal ...

This study deals with a comparison of the environmental performance of one-way slabs utilizing steel fibrereinforced limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) concrete with the control case of Ordinary Portland cement concrete. The experimental program constitu ...

Ultra-high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite (UHPFRC) is a modern class of cementitious building materials. Because of its superior mechanical properties and durability, it is increasingly used globally to rehabilitate, strengthen and mod ...

Suspended epitaxial gallium nitride (GaN) on silicon (Si) photonic crystal devices suffer from large residual tensile strain, especially for long waveguides, because fine structures tend to crack due to large stress. By introducing spring-like tethers, des ...

Bending-active elastica beam is a structural configuration that is based on the elastic deformation of an initially straight beam. This deformation occurs when horizontal displacements are applied to a sliding support, causing the beam to bend into an arch ...

While modeling people wearing tight-fitting clothing has made great strides in recent years, loose-fitting clothing remains a challenge. We propose a method that delivers realistic garment models from real-world images, regardless of garment shape or defor ...
