The high penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) charging stations (CSs), together with the progressive availability of distributed energy resources, increases the risk of grid overloading and power-quality degradation. Real-time control has been advocated ...

The primary objective of this doctoral thesis is the design and development of hierarchical control schemes for the overall operation and control of Islanded mGs (ImGs) with flexible structuresâ or, with no reference topologies. The control methodologies ...

Frequency response and voltage support are vital ancillary services for power grids. In this paper, we design and experimentally validate a real-time control framework for battery energy storage systems (BESSs) to provide ancillary services to power grids. ...

The opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa explores surfaces using twitching motility powered by retractile extracellu-lar filaments called type IV pili (T4P). Single cells twitch by sequen-tial T4P extension, attachment, and retraction. How single ...

Perimeter control based on Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) aims to meter the number of transferring vehicles at the periphery of the protected urban region in order to obtain the desired number of vehicles in that region. The advantage of perimeter c ...

The paper describes the formulation and application of an Optimal Power Flow (OPF)-driven Under Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) scheme in low-inertia power grids hosting large-scale battery energy storage systems. Thanks to the accurate prediction of the sy ...

Today, it is common knowledge in the cyber-physical systems domain that the tight interaction between the cyber and physical elements provides the possibility of substantially improving the performance of these systems that is otherwise impossible. On the ...

This work presents new secondary regulators for current sharing and voltage balancing in DC microgrids, composed of distributed generation units, dynamic RLC lines, and nonlinear ZIP (constant impedance, constant current, and constant power) loads. The pro ...

This paper presents a new model of voltage source converter (VSC)-based battery energy storage systems (BESSs) that interface with power grids. A VSC-based BESS is made up of a series connection of a VSC, its connecting transformer and a BESS. The VSC allo ...

According to theory, once certain conditions are fulfilled, current and voltage pulses propagate along ideal transmission lines with the speed of light. One can reach such a conclusion only when the conductors are assumed to be perfectly conducting, which ...

This Review discusses non-invasive and invasive technologies for conveying artificial sensory feedback through bionic hands. ...

The time-reversal invariance is readily described and universally embodied in most laws of nature, either in a strict or in a soft sense. Based on this underlying physical principle, time-reversal theory has been theoretically and experimentally studied in ...
