The current restrictions on the registration of combustion engines in different countries and the harmful impacts of fossil fuels on the environment and human health have motivated decision-makers to use batteries and/or fuel cells as alternatives for comb ...

Advanced Energy Materials published by Wiley-VCH GmbH.High-temperature solid oxide cells are highly efficient energy converters. However, their lifetime is limited by rapid deactivation. Little is known about the local, atomic scale transformation that dri ...

In the field of electrochemical CO2 reduction, both continuum models and molecular dynamics (MD) models have been used to understand the electric double layer (EDL). MD often focuses on the region within a few nm of the electrode, while continuum models ca ...

Fuel cells are considered one of the most efficient and environmental-friendly technologies available for converting chemical energy into electricity and heat, and considered a key technology to close the hydrogen cycle. In particular, combined heat and po ...

As the world shift towards sustainable energy solutions, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) using non-carbon fuels like ammonia and hydrogen emerge as promising pathways to produce clean energy and enhance conversion efficiency. However, current implementation ...

Silver is one of the most studied electrode materials for the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, a product with many industrial applications. There is a growing number of reports in which silver is implemented in gas diffusio ...

Understanding the impact of composition and interfaces between metals and oxides is a goal of interest for many chemical reactions. Herein, we propose a framework to map correlations between the electrochemical behavior of the oxide and the stability and r ...

Abstract The degradation of metal interconnects (ICs) in Solid Oxide Cells (SOCs) primarily results from chromium (Cr) oxide scale growth on stainless-steel substrates, causing ohmic loss and air-side electrode poisoning by Cr. This thesis addresses these ...

Fractures are diverse geological features. Despite extensive research on their varied geometries and growth mechanisms, there has been relatively little focus on how acid-rock interactions, such as reactive transport and precipitation, influence crack grow ...

A reversible photo-electrochemical device operating under concentrated irradiation could offer a stand-alone solution for producing solar fuel (in photo-driven electrolysis mode) and power (in fuel cell mode). This strategy would present the advantage of h ...

Now is an exciting time for the domain of Earth observation (EO), with a multitude of diverse sensors looking at the planet from satellites, airplanes or drones. The volume of imagery acquired is massive, and hold great potential for a variety of applicati ...

This Thesis provides a comprehensive and correlative investigation of the microstructure, chemical state, and electrochemical reactivity of manganese oxide (MnOx) films, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the deposition and dissolution mechanism of M ...

High-dimensional data must be highly structured to be learnable. Although the compositional and hierarchical nature of data is often put forward to explain learnability, quantitative measurements establishing these properties are scarce. Likewise, accessin ...

Anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) offers a green hydrogen production method that eliminates the need for platinum group metals (PGM) as electrocatalysts. This study employs a COMSOL (R) 6.0 model to simulate a 1x1 cm(2) Ni fibre - Raney (R ...

Driven by the global demand for batteries with improved performance, cost efficiency, and sustainability, battery research has expanded rapidly during recent years, generating a surge in data which offers the potential to accelerate the discovery of new ba ...

Advanced battery electrodes require a cautious design of microscale particles with built-in nanoscale features to exploit the advantages of both micro- and nano-particles relative to their performance attributes. Herein, the dynamic behavior of nanosized S ...

Many empirical studies have provided evidence for the emergence of algorithmic mechanisms (abilities) in the learning of language models, that lead to qualitative improvements in the model capabilities. Yet, a theoretical characterization of how such mecha ...

Photo-electrochemical (PEC) devices allow for converting solar energy into chemical energy and for the production of energetically dense solar fuels. Light absorption, charge separation and transport, electrochemical reactions, and ionic transport are requ ...
