The outstanding properties of Gallium Nitride (GaN) have enabled considerable improvements in the performance of power devices compared to traditional silicon technology, resulting in more efficient and highly compact power converters. GaN power technology ...

Neurons receive synaptic input primarily onto their dendrites. While we know much about the electrical properties of dendrites in rodents, we have only just started to describe their properties in the human brain. Here, we investigate the capacity of human ...

In this work, we experimentally explore and compare FET gate stacks with and without an inner metal plane between a linear dielectric (SiO2) and a ferroelectric layer (Si-doped HfO2) operating in the negative capacitance (NC) regime. The use of nanosecond- ...

A stunning example of synaptic diversity is the postsynaptic target cell-type-dependent difference in synap-tic efficacy in cortical networks. Here, we show that CA1 pyramidal cell (PC) to fast spiking interneuron (FSIN) connections have 10-fold larger rel ...

Multi-channel GaN power device, consisting of stacking multiple two-dimensional-electron-gas (2DEG) channels, has been demonstrated to achieve unprecedented on-state performance while maintaining high breakdown voltage (VBR). However, the large carrier den ...

We performed magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) on healthy individuals with tinnitus and no hearing loss (n = 16) vs. a matched control group (n = 17) to further elucidate the role of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in tinnitus. Two-dimensio ...

Due to their synaptic functionality based on interacting electronic and ionic charge carriers, organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) appeal as highly attractive candidates for a new generation of organic neuromorphic devices. Despite their acknowledg ...

Though models describing the operating mechanism of organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) have been developed, these models are unable to accurately reproduce OECT electrical characteristics. Here, the authors report a thermodynamic-based framework t ...

Gallium Nitride (GaN) has enabled groundbreaking developments in the field of optoelectronics and radio frequency communication. More recently, GaN devices for power conversion applications have demonstrated excellent potential. Thanks to Gallium Nitride w ...

Taking into account the impact of self-heating and temperature rise effects, this work presents a physics-based analytical model for HEMTs, operating continuously from room temperature to high temperatures in linear and saturation regimes. Relying on the c ...

Long-lasting memories are stored in a small set of neurons scattered throughout the brain, so-called engram cells. To define a stable engram each region of the brain involved in memory storage recruits between 5 and 20 percent of excitatory neurons. In par ...

The brain operates through the synaptic interaction of distant neurons within flexible, often heterogeneous, distributed systems. Histological studies have detailed the connections between distant neurons, but their functional characterization deserves fur ...

Aims: Synaptic dysfunction in Parkinson's disease is caused by propagation of pathogenic alpha-synuclein between neurons. Previously, in multiple system atrophy (MSA), pathologically characterised by ectopic deposition of abnormal alpha-synuclein predomina ...

Glutamate is a principal neurotransmitter used extensively by the nervous systems of all vertebrate and invertebrate animals. It is primarily an excitatory neurotransmitter that has been implicated in nervous system development, as well as a myriad of brai ...

The science and engineering of two-dimensional materials (2DMs), in particular, of 2D semiconductors, is advancing at a thriving pace. It is well known that these delicate few-atoms thick materials can be damaged during the processing toward their integrat ...
