Context. Line splitting in spectral lines is observed in various types of stars due to phenomena such as shocks, spectroscopic binaries, magnetic fields, spots, and nonradial modes. In pulsating stars, line splitting is often attributed to pulsation-induce ...

The JWST discovery of "little red dots" (LRDs) is reshaping our picture of the early Universe, yet the physical mechanisms driving their compact size and UV-optical colors remain elusive. Here, we report an unusually bright LRD (zspec = 3.1) observed as pa ...

We present the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science (CEERS) Survey, a 77.2 hr Director’s Discretionary Early Release Science Program. CEERS demonstrates, tests, and validates efficient extragalactic surveys using coordinated, overlapping parallel observa ...

As part of the Euclid Early Release Observations (ERO) programme, we analysed deep, wide-field imaging from the VIS and NISP instruments of two Milky Way globular clusters (GCs), namely NGC 6254 (M10) and NGC 6397, to look for observational evidence of the ...

The understanding of mixing processes in stars is crucial to improving our knowledge of the chemical abundances in stellar photospheres and their variation with evolutionary phase. This is fundamental for many astrophysical issues on all scales, ranging fr ...

We present an analysis of the UV continuum slope, β, using a sample of 726 galaxies with z > 4, selected from a mixture of JWST ERS, GTO, and GO observational programs. We considered only spectroscopic data obtained with the low-resolution (R ∼ 30−300) PRI ...

The cold neutral medium (CNM) is an important part of the galactic gas cycle and a precondition for the formation of molecular and star-forming gas, yet its distribution is still not fully understood. In this work, we present extremely high resolution simu ...

Numerical simulations of dwarf galaxies have so far failed to reproduce the observed metallicity-luminosity relation, down to the regime of ultra-faint dwarfs (UFDs). We address this issue by exploring how the first generations of metal-free stars (Pop III ...

We report the discovery of a surprising binary configuration of the double-mode Cepheid OGLE-LMC-CEP-1347 pulsating in the first (P-1= 0.690 days) and second-overtone (P-2= 0.556 days) modes. The orbital period (P-orb= 59 days) of the system is five times ...

The classical Cepheid eta Aql was not included in past Leavitt Law work because of a presumed complicating orbit due to a known B9.8V companion. To determine the orbit of eta Aql B, we analyze a significant number of radial velocity (RV) measurements from ...

The current paradigm for the co-evolution of galaxies and their supermassive black holes postulates that dust-obscured active galactic nuclei (AGNs) represent a transitional phase towards a more luminous and unobscured state. However, our understanding of ...

High-redshift binary quasars provide key insights into mergers and quasar activity, and are useful tools for probing the spatial kinematics and chemistry of galaxies along the line of sight. However, only three sub-10-kpc binaries have been confirmed above ...

Balance loss is a significant challenge in lower-limb exoskeleton applications, as it can lead to potential falls, thereby impacting user safety and confidence. We introduce a control framework for omnidirectional recovery step planning by online optimizat ...

Context. Some of the youngest stars (age less than or similar to 10 Myr) are clustered, while many others are observed scattered throughout star forming regions or in complete isolation. It has been intensively debated whether such scattered or isolated st ...

We update the publicly available weak lensing shear measurement algorithm pyRRG for the JWST, and apply it to UNCOVER DR1 imaging of galaxy cluster Abell 2744. At short wavelengths (

We present a new spectroscopic study of the dwarf galaxy Bootes I (Boo I) with data from the Anglo-Australian Telescope and its AAOmega spectrograph together with the Two Degree Field multi-object system. We observed 36 high-probability Boo I stars selecte ...

Gravitational waves, despite predicted within the Theory of General Relativity about a century ago, were observed experi-mentally only in the last few years, thanks to the recent advances of the LIGO and Virgo detectors. In this work, we introduce a simple ...

Masses of classical Cepheids of 3-11 M are predicted by theory but those measured clump between 3.6-5 M. As a result, their mass-luminosity relation is poorly constrained, impeding our understanding of basic stellar physics and the Leavitt Law. All Cepheid ...

Materials composed of elements from the third and fifth columns of the periodic table display a very rich behavior, with the phase diagram usually containing a metallic liquid phase and a polar semiconducting solid. As a consequence, it is very hard to ach ...

Numerical simulations are of a tremendous help to understand the growth of non-linear cosmological structures and how they lead to the formation of galaxies. In recent years, with the goal of improving their prediction power, new hydrodynamical techniques ...
