. - Investigation of magnetised plasmas by advanced diagnostics is a relevant topic in the frame of ion sources for high-performance particle accelerators and in thermonuclear fusion research for energetic purposes. In this paper, we propose two different ...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive, non-ionizing imaging modality with unmatched soft tissue contrast. However, compared to imaging methods like X-ray radiography, MRI suffers from long scanning times, due to its inherently sequential acqui ...

The blockage of weirs or bridges by in-stream wood can reduce the flood discharge capacity, leading to hazardous situations. To assess the related risk, blocking probabilities quantifications are needed. However, large wood has a random behaviour and it is ...

Transformer oil-based nanofluids are known to have higher thermal conductivity and heat transfer performance compared to conventional transformer oils. In this study, four different types of transformer oil-based nanofluids are synthesized using the well-k ...

In view of the low structural efficiency of bolted joints in pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) profiles with mainly unidirectional (UD) fiber architecture, off-axis plies were considered as an effective way to improve bolted joint performance. An ex ...

The ionotropic GABA(A) receptors represent the main target for different groups of widely used drugs having hypnotic and anxiolytic effects. So far, most approaches used to assess GABA activity involve invasive low -throughput electrophysiological techniqu ...

This study demonstrates the suitability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) for the imaging of congenital portosystemic shunts (PSS) in mice, a vascular abnormality in which mesenteric blood bypasses the liver and i ...

This thesis presents an experimentally focused study of three of the key physical phenomena of the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) process. The SLM process increasingly gains momentum in industrial applications. As awareness of the process and its capabiliti ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a digital holographic camera which can be attached to the camera port of a conventional microscope for obtaining digital holograms in a self-reference configuration, under short coherence illumination and in a sing ...

In this paper, we present an automated approach to quantify information about three-dimensional (3D) morphology, hemoglobin content and density of mature red blood cells (RBCs) using off-axis digital holographic microscopy (DHM) and statistical algorithms. ...

Phylogenetic bootstrapping (BS) is a standard technique for inferring confidence values on phylogenetic trees that is based on reconstructing many trees from minor variations of the input data, trees called replicates. BS is used with all phylogenetic reco ...

We report advances and complementary results concerning a recently developed method for high-sensitivity grating-based x-ray phase-contrast tomography. In particular we demonstrate how the soft tissue sensitivity of the technique can be used to obtain in-v ...
