Diamond-sensing microdevices for environmental control and analytical applications

Résumé

For the fabrication of microdevices with line widths approaching 1 mm, a patterning methodol. was developed by the modification of an existing plasma etching process, which is suitable for any form and type of diamond. These microdevices were tested as active sensing elements for both environmental control and metrol. applications: voltammetric detection of Cl, detection of at. O for space and terrestrial applications, the measurement of UV light, and finally, conductive at. force microscopy (AFM), which is successfully performed today with microfabricated diamond tips. Diamant

Le diamant (//) est l'allotrope de haute pression du carbone, métastable à basses température et pression. Moins stable que le graphite et la lonsdaléite qui sont les deux autres formes de cristallisation du carbone, sa renommée en tant que minéral lui vient de ses propriétés physiques et des fortes liaisons covalentes entre ses atomes arrangés selon un système cristallin cubique. En particulier, le diamant est le matériau naturel le plus dur (avec l'indice maximal (10) sur l'échelle de Mohs) et il possède une très forte conductivité thermique.

Diamond simulant

A diamond simulant, diamond imitation or imitation diamond is an object or material with gemological characteristics similar to those of a diamond. Simulants are distinct from synthetic diamonds, which are actual diamonds exhibiting the same material properties as natural diamonds. Enhanced diamonds are also excluded from this definition. A diamond simulant may be artificial, natural, or in some cases a combination thereof.

Diamond cut

A diamond cut is a style or design guide used when shaping a diamond for polishing such as the brilliant cut. Cut does not refer to shape (pear, oval), but the symmetry, proportioning and polish of a diamond. The cut of a diamond greatly affects a diamond's brilliance — a poorly-cut diamond is less luminous. In order to best use a diamond gemstone's material properties, a number of different diamond cuts have been developed. A diamond cut constitutes a more or less symmetrical arrangement of facets, which together modify the shape and appearance of a diamond crystal.
