The J–V bump and hysteresis in perovskite solar cells are studied combining measurement and simulation, linking them to spatial collection efficiency changes from ionic charge accumulation, as visualised in external quantum efficiency (EQE) spectra. ...

Gas bearings use pressurized gas as a lubricant to support and guide rotating machinery. These bearings have a number of advantages over traditional lubricated bearings, including higher efficiency in a variety of applications and reduced maintenance requi ...

The construction industry plays a major role in the high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, resource consumption, and waste generation observed nowadays. Key to the circular economy, structural component reuse arises as a promising solution to divert cons ...

All rights reserved.Introduction Gait and mobility impairment are pivotal signs of parkinsonism, and they are particularly severe in atypical parkinsonian disorders including multiple system atrophy (MSA) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). A pilot s ...

The manuscript describes the development of a spatial Agent-based Simulation to model the effect of public policies on private houseowner’s decisions concerning their heating system. The methodology utilized comprises of an empirical survey to determine th ...

Load-bearing systems in buildings, significant in material use and embodied greenhouse gas emissions (EGHGE), have lacked detailed analysis on their environmental and functional relationships over time and space. This study evaluates the environmental impa ...

Designing turbocompressors is a complex and challenging task, as it involves balancing conflicting objectives such as efficiency, stability, and robustness against manufacturing deviations. This paper proposes an integrated design methodology for turbocomp ...

Herringbone grooved journal bearings (HGJBs) are widely used in micro-turbocompressor applications due to their high load-carrying capacity, low friction, and oil-free solution. However, the performance of these bearings is sensitive to manufacturing devia ...

Machine learning has paved the way for the real-time monitoring of complex infrastructure and industrial systems. However, purely data-driven methods have not been able to learn the underlying dynamics and generalize them to operating conditions that have ...

Structural systems are a significant contributor to buildings’ embodied carbon and reusing structural elements in new load-bearing applications is one strategy to reduce this impact. However, integrating this approach into existing design workflows without ...

Biogeotechnical research has inspired revolutionary ideas to claim the status of a distinctive branch of geotechnical engineering. Most notably, underground carbonate mineralization, most commonly referred to as microbially induced carbonate precipitation ...

In the evolution of structural glass beam elements, the requirements for post-fracture load bearing capacity and safe failure behaviour have led to the development of reinforced and post-tensioned beams. Maximum bending capacity in the post-fracture state ...

To elucidate the sources and chemical reaction pathways of organic vapors and particulate matter in the ambient atmosphere, real-time detection of both the gas and particle phase is needed. State-of-the-art techniques often suffer from thermal decompositio ...

Deployable gridshells are a class of planar-to-spatial structures that achievea 3D curved geometry by inducing bending on a flat grid of elastic beams. However, theslender nature of these beams often conflicts with the structure’s load-bearing capacity. To ...

Aluminium is a metal sought in the industry because of its various physical properties. It is produced by an electrolysis reduction process in large cells. In these cells, a large electric current goes through the electrolytic bath and the liquid aluminium ...

Concrete accounts for the largest share of worldwide building material use and waste generation, with cement production being responsible for approximately 9% of global anthropogenic CO2 emissions. A currently untapped strategy to significantly reduce thes ...

Is it possible to detect if the sample paths of a stochastic process almost surely admit a finite expansion with respect to some/any basis? The determination is to be made on the basis of a finite collection of discretely/noisily observed sample paths. We ...

Antarctic precipitation remains poorly characterized and understood, especially within the boundary layer. This is due in part to a still-limited amount of surface-based remote sensing observations. A suite of cloud and precipitation remote-sensing instrum ...
