CsPbBr3 has received wide attention due to its superior emission yield and better thermal stability compared to other organic-inorganic lead halide perovskites. In this study, through an interplay of theory and experiments, we investigate the molecular ori ...

Recent developments of self-injection locking of a DFB laser with an ultra-high Q resonator have enabled unprecedented low-noise performance of coherent light sources. We review the demonstration of ultra-narrow linewidth laser and microcombs in integrated ...

The ultrafast nuclear dynamics of the acetylene cation C2H2+ following photoionization of the neutral molecule is investigated using an extreme-ultraviolet pump/infrared probe setup. The observed modulation of the C2H+ fragment ion yield with pump-probe de ...

The technological and experimental progress in electrochemical imaging of biological specimens is discussed with a view on potential applications for skin cancer diagnostics, reproductive medicine and microbial testing. The electrochemical analysis of sing ...

I discuss the recent developments concerning emerging ultrafast sources of short wavelength radiation, as well as the new methods they generate. I then dwell on a few examples of recent results and the way the new sources will bring major advancements in o ...

A single frequency wafer-fused semiconductor disk laser at 1.56 mu m with 1 watt of output power and a coherence length over 5 km in fiber is demonstrated. The result represents the highest output power reported for a narrow-line semiconductor disk laser o ...

Fluorescence microscopy techniques are well established research tools and have proven their use in a large variety of biomedical applications. Microscopic molecular contrast is achieved by imaging fluorescent dyes that bind specifically to a molecule of i ...

In this thesis, we studied the modal structure and the polarization of the optical field emitted by vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) emitting in the short- and long-wavelength domains (0.9-1.3μm). Our study concerns two types of components: ...

A quantum dot is a semiconductor nanostructure that confines the motion of conduction band electrons and valence band holes in all three spatial directions, thus creating fully discrete energy levels. The confinement in the InAs/GaAs material system is gen ...

The field of photonic crystals is a rapidly developing branch of modern optics. Photonic crystals are believed to be the cornerstone for a wide range of new photonic devices controlling the confinement and propagation of light. These artificial structures ...

It was about 125 years ago that the light bulb was commercialized by Thomas Edison. No doubt a brilliant invention at the time, today its low power conversion efficiency is one of the reasons why lighting in the western world has such high energy consumpti ...

A new holographic technique combining digital holographic microscopy with the use of low coherence light has been developed and the potential of the resulting method for vision in turbid media and biomedical imaging has been evaluated. In digital holograph ...

Many biological tissues and a lot of technical objects of interest are to a certain degree transparent to light in the visible and near infrared wavelength range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Nevertheless, it has not been possible for a long time to cre ...
