The aqueous zinc-ion battery is promising as grid scale energy storage device, but hindered by the instable electrode/electrolyte interface. Herein, we report the lean-water ionic liquid electrolyte for aqueous zinc metal batteries. The lean-water ionic li ...

Cotton fibers, a natural cellulose, have played a critical role in the development of wearable energy storage, owning to their wearability, integrability, eco-benignity, and cost effectiveness. Graphene, a two-dimensional carbon material, possesses excelle ...

Electro-adhesive clutches have become effective tools for variable stiffness functions in many robotic systems due to their light weight, high speed and strong brake force. In this paper, we present a novel, tubular design of an electro-adhesive clutch. Ou ...

Prompt development of electronic devices and sensors raised the requirement for design/fabrication of advanced energy sources capable of providing considerable amount of energy for consuming platforms through practical nanotechnological approaches. For thi ...

A gravitational energy storage device is described where the kinetic energy to recover while braking a vertically moving mass is compensated by an auxiliary storage device based on supercapacitors. The characteristic power surge occurring by a fast decreas ...

Crank arrangement (1) for driving a pin-driven two degrees? of freedom mechanical oscillator (5), comprising:- a crank element (7) arranged to be rotationally driven about an axis of rotation (19) by means of a mechanical source of energy (M),- a crank slo ...

Continuous hydrothermal flow synthesis (CHFS) of Ni-Fe layered double hydroxide (LDH) leads to waterborne dispersions of 2D nanoplatelets in the range of 10-50 nm in lateral size. Conversion of the as-synthesized LDH nanoplatelet dispersion into inkjet pri ...

Passive energy dissipation devices are widely utilized in buildings to minimize structural and non-structural damage under seismic loading. Commonly used devices include, among others, yield, viscous and friction dampers. While the use of yield dampers, su ...

The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, energy storage systems (ESSs), and DC loads has opened the door to DC technology to pave its way into future grids. The shift has been more obvious in the marine domain supported by track records of i ...

Context. Extended main sequence turn-offs are features commonly found in the colour-magnitude diagrams of young and intermediate age (less than about 2 Gyr) massive star clusters, where the main sequence turn-off is broader than can be explained by photome ...

Transportation electrification is increasing and recently more focus has been directed on heavy vehicles and especially on city buses. Battery electric buses are inherently more energy efficient than diesel buses and the efficiency can be further increased ...

We introduce DextrES, a flexible and wearable haptic glove which integrates both kinesthetic and cutaneous feedback in a thin and light form factor (weight is less than 8g). Our approach is based on an electrostatic clutch generating up to 20 N of holding ...

We demonstrate that by a proper design of a system comprising a perovskite solar cell (PSC) coupled to an electrochemical double-layer capacitor (EDLC), it is possible to simultaneously improve both the PSC and EDLC performance and outperform each single u ...

Safety assessments of road bridges to braking events combine the braking force, acting along the longitudinal axis of the deck, with a vertical load that accounts for the vertical component of the traffic action. In modern design standards the vertical loa ...

The current provisions for the braking force in the Eurocodes are much more demanding than previously enforced national codes from most European countries. Hence, safety assessments of existing bridges may show a lack of compliance with the new safety requ ...

This paper describes a first prototype harvesting the acoustic energy using electrochemical storage devices. In particular, the harvesting system is composed by an Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC) suitably coupled with an electroacoustic abso ...

A probabilistic approach is necessary to estimate the magnitude of the braking force that compares in terms of return period with the vertical traffic loads present in bridge design codes. A data set from a Danish Field Operational Test served as support t ...

This paper examines the design and efficiency of a highway use reservation system where commuters need reservations to access a highway facility at specific times. We show that, by accommodating reservation requests to the level that the highway capacity a ...

Supercapacitors-based storage systems are expected to play a key role in microgrids in view of their capability to compensate high-power imbalances. We define an agent for the control of supercapacitor arrays within the context of the novel control framewo ...

This paper deals with a power management mechanism using Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) with integrated energy storage elements, the typical use of which could be a grid-interface for a photovoltaic park or a charging park for electric vehicles. In com ...
