Deep neural networks (DNNs) are receiving increasing attention in wind power forecasting due to their ability to effectively capture complex patterns in wind data. However, their forecast errors are severely limited by the local optimal weight issue in opt ...

Hydropower tailrace channels are unique and attractive locations for hydrokinetic energy harvesting due to fast currents, scheduled flow releases, proximity to existing structural and electrical infrastructures, and low risk of additional environmental imp ...

The wind turbine array consists of eight NREL 5-MW reference turbines aligned with the inflow direction. The first turbine in the array is subjected to sinusoidal yaw control with a magnitude of 10∘ and different yaw frequencies. Based on spectral and dyna ...

With wind power providing an increasing amount of electricity worldwide, the quantification of its spatio-temporal variations and the related uncertainty is crucial for energy planners and policy-makers. Here, we propose a methodological framework which (1 ...

Several studies have investigated new particle formation (NPF) events from various sites ranging from pristine locations, including forest sites, to urban areas. However, there is still a dearth of studies investigating NPF processes and subsequent aerosol ...

River inflow affects the spatiotemporal variability of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the water column of lakes and may locally influence CO2 gas exchange with the atmosphere. However, spatiotemporal CO2 variability at river inflow sites is often unknown leaving ...

In this work the redistribution and recovery of mean kinetic energy in a realistic, finite size wind farm is studied for neutral atmospheric boundary layer conditions. Five different wind farm configurations, with different wind turbine arrangements, are c ...

In this paper, high frequency wind time series measured at different heights from the ground (from 5.5 to 25.5 meters) in an urban area were investigated. The spectrum of each series is characterized by a power-law behaviour at low frequency range, with a ...

In this work we study the dynamics of the surface-based temperature inversion over the Antarctic Plateau during the polar winter. Using 6 years of observations from the French-Italian Antarctic station Concordia at Dome C, we investigate sudden regime tran ...

In this experiment, a small scale vertical-axis wind-turbine (VAWT) is immersed in a boundary-layer in a wind tunnel and stereo particle image velocimetry is employed to quantify the 3D characteristics of the wake. The measurements show that the wake is st ...

Scanning Doppler lidars are the best tools for acquiring 3D velocity fields of full scale wind turbine wakes, whether the objective is a better understanding of some features of the wake or the validation of wake models. Since these lidars are based on the ...

Wind turbines operate in the surface layer of the atmospheric boundary layer, where they are subjected to strong wind shear and relatively high turbulence levels. These incoming boundary layer flow characteristics are expected to affect the structure of wi ...

Locating new wind farms is of crucial importance for energy policies of the next decade. To select the new location, an accurate picture of the wind fields is necessary. However, characterizing wind fields is a difficult task, since the phenomenon is highl ...
