New particle formation (NPF) substantially contributes to global cloud condensation nuclei (CCN), and their climate impacts. Individual NPF events are also thought to increase local CCN, cloud droplet number (CDN), and cloud albedo. High resolution simulat ...

Visual data play a crucial role in modern society, and the rate at which images and videos are acquired, stored, and exchanged every day is rapidly increasing. Image compression is the key technology that enables storing and sharing of visual content in an ...

Point clouds are effective data structures for the rep- resentation of three-dimensional media and hence adopted in a wide range of practical applications. In many cases, the portrayed data is expected to be visualized by humans. After acquisition, point c ...

The past decades have witnessed rapid growth in imaging as a major form of communication between individuals. Due to recent advances in capture, storage, delivery and display technologies, consumers demand improved perceptual quality while requiring reduce ...

The Arctic is one of the most rapidly warming regions of the globe. Low-level clouds and fog modify the energy transfer from and to space and play a key role in the observed strong Arctic surface warming, a phenomenon commonly termed "Arctic amplification" ...

We propose a method to extract orthogonal views of facades from photogrammetric models of cities. This method was applied to extract all facades of the city of Venice. The result images open up new areas of research in architectural history. ...

In this work, we tackle the problem of 7-DoF grasping pose estimation(6-DoF with the opening width of parallel-jaw gripper) from point cloud data, which is a fundamental task in robotic manipulation. Most existing methods adopt 3D voxel CNNs as the backbon ...

3D single object tracking (SOT) is an indispensable part of automated driving. Existing approaches rely heavily on large, densely labeled datasets. However, annotating point clouds is both costly and time-consuming. Inspired by the great success of cycle t ...

Clouds are omnipresent in the Earth's atmosphere. Their phase composition significantly modulates their interaction with solar and terrestrial radiation, as well as precipitation formation. Particularly for clouds containing both phases, known as mixed-pha ...

Due to the increasing number of pictures captured and stored every day by and on digital devices, lossy image compression has become inevitable to limit the needed storage requirement. As a consequence, these compression methods might introduce some visual ...

In this paper, we introduce a new solution and underlying architecture that allows remote participants to interact with hosts in a broadcast scenario. To achieve this, background extraction is first applied to video received from remote participants to ext ...

Lossy image compression is a popular, simple and effective solution to reduce the amount of data representing digital pictures. In most lossy compression methods, the reduced volume of data in bits is achieved at the expense of introducing visual artifacts ...

The dataset contains point clouds from 3D scans, reconstructed 3D data, and statistical data analysis, which are intended as complementary material for the publication "AR-assisted timber drilling with smart retrofitted tools". ...

Automated, ship-board flow cytometers provide high-resolution maps of phytoplankton composition over large swaths of the world's oceans. They therefore pave the way for understanding how environmental conditions shape community structure. Identification of ...

Modern information technologies and human-centric communication systems employ advanced content representations for richer portrayals of the real world. The newly adopted imaging modalities offer additional information cues and permit the depiction of real ...

Point clouds are among popular visual representations for immersive media. However, the vast amount of information generated during their acquisition requires effective compression for practical applications. Although relevant activities from standardizati ...

Aerosols still present the largest uncertainty in estimating anthropogenic radiative forcing. Cloud processing is potentially important for secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation, a major aerosol component: however, laboratory experiments fail to mimic ...

Point cloud is a 3D image representation that has recently emerged as a viable approach for advanced content modality in modern communication systems. In view of its wide adoption, quality evaluation metrics are essential. In this paper, we propose and ass ...

The rapid development of digital imaging and video has placed visual contents in the heart of our lives. Digital multimedia span a vast number of areas from business to leisure, including but not limited to education, medicine, accessibility, training, adv ...

This study presents Cloudnet retrievals of Arctic clouds from measurements conducted during a 3-month research expedition along the Siberian shelf during summer and autumn 2014. During autumn, we find a strong reduction in the occurrence of liquid clouds a ...
